Šunik Water Grove / Šunik-Wasserhain (Šunikov vodni gaj, Slovenia)

in photography •  5 years ago  (edited)

Today, after a few weeks, I finally made another trip to Slovenia to the Triglav National Park. I had decided to visit the Šunik water grove (Šunik water hurst - Šunikov vodni gaj) in the Lepena Valley and later the Mlinarica Waterfall in the Soča Valley.

Today there is the first part with photos from the area of the Šunik Water Grove.

In the Soča Valley you drive at the Great Soča Gorge (Velika korita Soče) into the Lepena Valley. After about 3 kilometers on the right is a small gravel parking lot where you can park your car.

From the parking lot a flat forest path leads along the stream in about 5 to 10 minutes to a small wooden bridge.

If you go over the bridge, you can go left to the circular path, or right to the Šunik creek.

From the bridge you can either walk along the Lepenjica creek (clockwise or counterclockwise), which should take about 45 minutes, or after the bridge, turn right, after a few hundred meters cross the bridge over the Šunik stream and walk then either on the way along the creek, or you walk like I did right on and also in the creek.

If you want to go in the creek, then you should be a bit practiced in climbing and wearing sturdy shoes. The rocks are smooth and sometimes dangerous slippery, but fortunately often overgrown with moss.

But the more dangerous way through the stream also reveals beautiful small and larger waterfalls and cascades.

That was the first part of my trip today. In my next post I want to show more photos of the waterfalls in the stream Šunik, and of course a few waterfall photos of the circular route, which I walked only partly this time.

Now I have to learn about Snax ;)

Very nice walk among wonderful nature in the forest! The waterfall is beautiful. The water looks clean and refreshing. The huge rocks with moss are amazing.

I absolutely agree with you, traveling in the more dangerous way, you can see the pure beauty of nature that not many people can reach.

Thanks so much for sharing. Without you, we cannot see such a wonderful nature like this! ;)

When it's getting really dangerous, then I turn around. I like to be in the nature, away from the tourist paths and at places, where people normaly don't go ot which people normaly don't find, but I want to come back home too ;)

Thank you so much for this nice comment and compliment, @tangmo. I try to do my best to show you the beautiful places where I live.

You are much welcome!

Ah! Good decision, "when it's getting really dangerous, then you turn around".... Coming back home safely is the most important indeed!

The same as me, I like to be in the nature and away from the tourist paths, too.

Many thanks once again for showing us the beautiful places where you live. ;)

Yes, no photo is worth risking your life, and tourists are loud and annoying.
... and you are much welcome too 😊

Well said! I totally agree, "no photo is worth risking your life".... ;)

Thank you @tangmo :)
A few months ago a photographer died on a mountain where I have been photographing many times on the same spot. I have just not gone so near to the abyss.

You're welcome! ;)

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear that! Please always stay safe!

Accidents happen, especially, when you are not aware of the danger. I try always to stay safe, thank you @tangmo :)

Nice path through the forest :) beautiful pictures

It was indeed a very nice place and day there 😀
Thank you very much @yeaho.

Gorgeous long exposures what a wonderful area and thanks also for showing us the paths and trails

I hope your Sunday has started well, I just got back from a beach walk a little while ago a nice sunrise and my cleaning of the sensor and lenses seems ot have done the job ;)

Thank you so much JJ 😊
I think, that this kind of photography belongs to my favorite, because you are really in the middle of the nature, surrounded by old trees and mossy rocks ... and nobody is there, at least no tourist in sandals LOL

My day started again with a trip to Slovenia. I have visited the gorge, where I have been months ago, when it was still closed.
They open at seven in the morning, and I was there at seven. I was the first, and for about an hour I have been almost alone in the gorge. Then the first tourist crowds approached from the other entry to the gorge, to which I was walking to. On my way back from this other entry I thought I was in a U-station or on a main street at the rush hour 😉

I can relate why you would love that kind of location for photography, I would love to get out in areas like that all on my own with nature not only a greta photo op but it must be so refreshing and relaxing ;)
Well glad you got to the gorge before it got busy I bet the feeling when on your own to when the tourists arrived was in total contrast and you were glad to get out of there

Right, I just wrote in another reply that I am so glad, that I have found this area. Nobody else was there, and I don't think, that many people come there.
You are really "alone in the wilderness" somehow ;)

When the tourists arrived in their busses it was really terrifying, believe me or not. They came from both sides and because the wooden walkways along the canyon walls are very narrow you have sometimes to wait for 20 or more people to pass before you can go :(

But it is a really beautiful gorge, and I will go there again, preferable after the tourist season ;)

Having to wait for the tourist to move by must be sure frustrating for sure and if there like most tourists I bet there pretty loud as well which also spoils the feel of the gorge
Visiting there off season sounds a good plan

Right, and also no chance to place my tripod on the path, because of the people, and there are only a few places, where you can leave the path and go down to the water. But I do know now some spots there, and next time I don't need to waste my time by searching.
This time was just a scouting tour, and I will post my story by the end of the week, I think.

Thats a great idea to go once s a scouting trip and find spots to revisit on future trips especially if you want to get there early and head to them while it is quiet

Yeah, there are nice waterfalls and cascades there as well as some smaller spots for detail shots, but maybe I will forget these until the season is over ;)

wow beautiful small waterfalls. your waterfall photographs are looks like the longexploserphotograph. good work my friend.

I love to take long exposure photos of rivers and waterfalls, especially in areas, which no tourists will ever find.
Thank you very much for your nice comment @tussar11 😊

Love the motion of the water and the mist in that one shot!

Thank you so much Ross, I have had such a good time there :)

Great place!

Yes, it is amazing, I will definitely go there again soon. The best is, that at least in the morning you won't meet anybody - the whole area is yours 😀
Thank you so much @rossfletcher.

Great place for photos! Do they have mosquitoes there?

Yes, thank you yo much, I was so happy, that I have gone the "wrong" way.
No, no mosquitoes and no tourists ;)

Awesome photo!..

Thanks for sharing and greetings from Mexico.

Thank you so much for your nice comment @neuerko and greetings from Austria :)

Very interesting expedition! The waterfall is deep in the forest! So quiet! No people around.

The waterfalls are very loud, but you are right, this no noise, this is peaceful 😁
And no people around, that's correct - this makes the nature even more adorable.
Thank you so much @kaminchan 😀

Howdy sir johannpiber! Are you sure you really went there? Because that looks like a fantasy, a fairytale. Too perfect to be true. But then again, it IS in Slovenia.
Hey, isn't moss slippery too?

Hello @janton :)

You are describing it very well: this place looks really amazing, and it IS Slovenia :)

The wet stones and rocks were slick and slippery, but the moss acted like a soft carpet and was not slippery at all :)

oh, I will remember that about the moss if I ever have to cross over a river or falls area with moss covered rocks!

It worked there, but please don't blame me, when you do fall into the river, my friend. It works in Slovenia, and I haven't even tried it with the Austrian moss yet :) lol

haha! oh, maybe moss is different in different countries then and you need to try it out in Austria!

I would love to try it in Austria, but I haven't yet found a similar place here: a stream in the woods with little waterfalls and boulders overgrown with moss.

oh that's interesting, I thought that would be a normal situation. But I'm sure you'll eventually run into one in Austria.

No, @janton, I have found similar, but not such a creek, green over green :)
The waterfall I have visited right after this little stream didn't have any mossy rocks or vegetation - only stones and rocks ;)
