The Castle Hochosterwitz / Die Burg Hochosterwitz

in photography •  6 years ago

Guess what weather we had when I got up this morning? Right: It was raining. For the whole day it rained quite a lot.

Ratet mal, welches Wetter wir hatten, als ich heute morgen aufgestanden bin? Richtig: Es hat geregnet. Den ganzenTag lang hat es zum Teil recht stark geregnet.

The dark Castle / Die dunkle Burg

Nevertheless, I drove around a bit in search of a dry place, which unfortunately I did not really find. In the village of Diex (altitude: 1,159 m / 3,802 ft) I was even in a small snowstorm.

When I stopped by at the Castle Hochosterwitz in Launsdorf shortly before my arrival, the rain started to fade and I was able to shoot some photos of the castle.

I know the pictures are relatively dark, but if you open them in full size, they look better. That's why the headline is "The Dark Castle" 😉

Ich weiß, die Bilder sind relativ dunkel, aber wenn ihr sie in voller Größe öffnet, dann schauen sie besser aus. Deshalb lautet die Überschrift auch "Die dunkle Burg" 😉

Thank you so much for resteeming my post, dear @pixresteemer :)

Well, everything has arrived, the winter has returned. The last shot made me think of the Christmas tree)) The ringing of the bells in my ears)). Beautiful pictures, my Dear friend @Johannpiber! This impregnable castle is amazing. Before, people knew how to build. They did not use the funds of international monetary funds, and with them, everything worked out perfectly. Modern architecture can not even dream of such landscapes. Without helicopters, without cranes, this is amazing! Today, everyone wants to invent something new, but, they have not learned to repeat well what our ancestors were able to do.

Thank you, my friend @barski :)

in about eight months it's christmas again ;) but usualy we don't have snow at christmas anymore. Years ago, there was a lot of snow from mid December on, but time has changed, as well as nature has changed.

This castle is beautiful, from the outside as well as from the inside. You can walk the long path arount the rock, on which the castle is built, up to the entrance, or you also may use the quite new elevator, but I haven't been up there for a while. Maybe I will visit the castle later this year and take some photos of the inside.

Like you, I don't think, that anybody could afford or is able to build such a huge castle nowadays.

Have a nice evening my friend :)

Sorry I am ignoring the last photo and the mention of that four letter word, but the photos of that castle with the dark skiesd give a cool moody feel that fits with he drama of the castle
I to had rain all day today I think it only stopped for maybe 5 minutes

Lastly you said, you don't mind, when the place, where it is sn...ng, is somewhere higher up on a mountain. This is why I included the image and didn't warn you to not scroll further down, although I thought of it ;)

It was raining here all day long, apart from the few minutes, when I was around this castle.

Thank you - this castle is worth a visit at good weather, although I haven't been there for a few years ;)

I am just joking around about the snow I especially do not mind seeing it in other peoples photos and it is what you saw in your outing yesterday so I am glad you did share it
On a sunny day this castle must have a totally different feel to it I bet

Have a great day

I know you are joking - me too 😉 although I did not expect to be in a little snow storm.

Yes, on sunny days it is really beautiful. You can walk up there, there is an exhibition and also a restaurant in the inner courtyard, where you can have a drink or eat something, or you can just enjoy the view :)

That sounds like a pretty cool place to visit have a meal and enjoy the view :)

Yes, it is, and I think I will do exactly this sometime in this Summer :)

Cool I look forward to seeing your post when you do :)

I don't know, when, but I think, it should be within the next weeks, before the tourist season fully begins ;)

That's an amazing place! I can't help wondering about anyone who lived there coming and going would be quite a long adventure ;)

Thank you Ross, yes, it's an amazing castle and it's very beautiful, especially in sunshine ;)
I think the inhabitants of the castle thought safety first, and then comfort :)

You're really good ! it s almost like a shot from game of thrones with all that vegetation. And the grey sky is amazing. I particularly loved the picture of the village of Diex, since i never been there i was happy to discover it thank to your photography. Greeting from morocco !

Greetings from Austria and thank you, @strangersouma 😊

We have had some very gray and rainy days, but I wanted to shoot some photos today. I did not expect the snow in Diex, but snow in May is interesting. Maybe I'll post the other few images from there too.

The castle looks better in sunshine, but I must admit, that the gray clouds are quite nice too ;) Fortunately, the rain has stopped while I was photographing around the castle :)

This castle looks like a castle in a ghost movie!

This castle looks really beautiful in sunshine, dear @kaminchan, but you might be right - with the gray clouds and the dark mood there could be ghosts walking around that place ;)

Dankeschön - thank you so much, @suzana72 😊
This castle looks much better in sunshine though ;)

wow beautiful photographs of The dark Castle.
It built on mountain that is the interesting thing.
Thanks for share with us...

Thank you very much for this nice comment on my photos, @tussar11 😊
In ancient days the castles were all built on mountains or huge rocks to make it harder for the enemies to attack a castle.

what the?? Snowstorm?? This time of year? wow, that sucks. lol.
But the castle is fabulous! I love that place, does anyone live there and can you go visit it?

Some rooms are private, I don't know, if the owners actually live there, but sometimes for sure.

Of course, you can visit the castle. There is a restaurant too, where you can eat and drink something, and an exhibition, showing how the people lived in the ancient times.

Oh man, I want to see that castle. When I come over you'll take me there right? lol.

Of course, when you come here I will be your guide. I will show you some places, which no tourist will ever see ... the kitchen of my mother :) lol ... and the little waterfalls behind the house ... and, of course, this castle :)))

haha! good deal sir johann! Yes I want to see those little waterfalls and drink fresh water and see the back country. Maybe by that time you will have met some fairies to go visit!

Oh yes, the fairies. I forgot about it, but next time in the woods I will look for them ;)

lol! sir johannpiber just think, your post would go viral all over the world if you got photos of them. You'll be famous!

I would not take photos, @janton. I probably would tell you about it, but I would not take any photos, and of course, I would not tell anybody, where they are. If there were such creatures like fairies or Big Foot, then they should not be hunted :)
