Good day.
I have quite a lot of different flowers growing in my garden and of course it would be terrible of me not to photograph them.
During the process of taking a whole bunch of trial and error photos I realized that I can still make use of my over exposed photos, which of course would usually end up deleted.
I found that in a photo where the flower was over exposed and the background was quite dark I could still adjust the brightness and contrast to create something amazing.
I managed to manipulate the photo to achieve a completely blacked out background which left the flower as a center piece.
The following is a collection of my favorite floral photos with the above mentioned effect. I will add both the before and after pictures. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

The process behind capturing images like the ones above is quite easy to accomplish with any entry level or even the more advanced dslr cameras. I do believe it will be easier to achieve similar or even better results when using a black backdrop to simulate the darker parts of the image.
All of the above images were taken with a Canon 350d paired with the Tamron 70 - 300mm lens. This lens is my all round favorite as it performs well in both nature photography as well as portraiture. It also has a very compact build making it somewhat smaller than most lenses in that range. I will try to do a post with a full review of my gear in the near future to do some more in depth explanations of what works for me.
Thanks for your time and support.
Joshua Baxter😊.
Nice post! How did you do the dark background? I need a tutorial!

Thanks for the support😊. I actually did this by accident. I achieved the effect by taking a photo with a very dark background and a well lit subject. Then by editing the photo's contrast and brightness I was able to darken the background completely... What I would rather suggest is if you're using a DSLR use a black sheet of paper behind the flower and set the aperture as large as possible - F/ 4.5 should be perfect. When doing this you won't even notice the paper in the background. I hope to see your version soon😊... Good luck.

Thank you very much! But I haven't got a proper camera yet! Still using the small pocket Canon IXUS camera and my new mobile phone!

For me photo editing can be art, especially with good captures to begin with.

Nowadays photo editing plays one of the biggest roles in photography. Even the most beautiful photo has had some form of editing done. And of course there is nothing wrong with that. Thanks for the support.
