on the side of a volcano in hawaii

in photography •  8 years ago

a couple years ago my family and i went out to visit some family friends in hawaii. my uncle norman, the type of uncle i look nothing like but feels like family nonetheless, and his husband voltaire have been living on the big island of hawaii for as long as i can remember. uncle norm has dedicated himself to the reforestation of his neighborhood, which happens to sit on an inactive volcano. he has hundreds of different types of plants, which are mostly native to the island. he has also created a bird sanctuary, which is mostly populated by parrots. while my mom, sister and i were visiting, uncle norm walked us around and pointed out every plant along the way. here are some photos from uncle norm's land.

^ her name is angel, she's very vocal.

i'm not sure when i'll make it back to uncle norm's, but hopefully it's in the near future. we were lucky enough to spend the night and hang out with uncles norm and voltaire, and a few of their friends. island life is pretty nice.
