It was 1am on a beautiful October night over in Cork, Ireland, with an almost full moon in the sky, I decided to go out equipped with my tripod and DSLR to see what I could get, the results were even more spectacular than I imagined! I had read about using manual settings and shooting at night, some of the advice I found was to switch off the LCD display and use the self timer on a tripod, this ensures that when you press the button, the camera is not moving, which would blur the shot. This was quite time consuming compared to my usual gung-ho style of shooting and moving on, but definitely worth it.
The orange glow is the light pollution from Cork City which is about 15 miles from this spot.
The next field was full of cattle, which I'm always a little nervous about, but nevertheless, I continued on to the top of that field to get a shot of the valley...
One last shot before retiring for the night...
One of the great things about Ireland is that the population is spread out, which results in very little light pollution, fantastic for stargazing and as these shoots prove also, great for making night look like day.
