Mavic Air Overhead Video Shot and Dtube Goes HD!

in photography •  7 years ago

Hey everyone! After 40 or 50 attempts and re-uploads, I finally got this video up on D.tube. I figured out that there was some sort of encoding issue with the original export that was causing the video to not get sent to IPFS for some reason.

I did a bunch of research online trying to find a solution to this issue, but nobody had posted about it and it seemed like nobody was talking about the issue that I had. I'll make a post later today showing how I got it to work and hopefully it can help others who are having issues with the upload process!

This is my first video filmed with the Mavic Air and I'm really excited to see how it looks on D.Tube, especially now that we have the 720p update!

D.tube is going to be a massive platform and I expect it to continue to grow exponentially over the coming months as youtubers bring their great content and large audiences. Exciting times!

This footage was shot from the Mavic Air and was recorded in 2.7k at 60 fps (frames per second).

Question of the day: My goal is to get more active on D.tube and this video is my first test to see what kind of quality I can put out in future videos. What do you think of the quality of this footage? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

-Khaleel

Very nice footage! Thanks for sharing

Thanks @cookit!

The video quality is suparb and infact HD. I was actually thinking the reason you had a tough time uploading the video was coz of the video size but it seems like you found a better explanation for it. Would be expecting the tutorial you said you will post for those that will be having future difficulties with dtube co I always do have difficulties uploading in dtube and most times I just opt for YouTube instead.

Thanks @sistem! I'm going to play around with the video settings a little more for next time and try and get better quality out of the upload. Hopefully I can find another solution to make the quality better!

I will also get to work on that tutorial. I hope that it can help you and others have an easier time posting to dtube than I have!

Am gonna grab two glass later tonight. One for myself and one for you. You didn't get discouraged even after 50 attempts. That's the spirit of a conqueror.

Yes from the distant, the quality is really great. The only suggestion I'll make is that you should bring the drone closer to your building projects when you are actually videoing the projects. In that way the camera will focus more on what you want us to see. But if you wanna just show a a wider view of a city like this one, then the height is quite okay.

Congratulations man, let the videos start rolling in.

Haha thanks @lordjames! It took a lot of different methods and attempts, but I finally got it to work!

Thanks for the suggestions as well, this was more of a test of the video quality on dtube and to see if the footage uploaded properly. I think there are some tweaks I can make to the settings to make the video show better on dtube because it looks much better on my computer than when it was uploaded. I'll mess around with it today and see if I can get something uploaded by tomorrow and compare the quality!

Thanks @lordjames, I appreciate your support and I'm looking forward to posting more and more videos! I'm excited!

Nice catch of the train @khaleelkazi. It looks like the Burlington. I played football against LT one time nearby there. That area is not so bad because the trains just go by. When you closer to the city the trains stop and hitch and make all kinds of noise.

Thanks, the train passing was a total coincidence and I managed to have the drone in a good position to capture it! LT were the rivals of my high school - hinsdale central red devils!

I agree, the screeching noise of trains is what gets me the worst, luckily I don't have to hear it much out here in the suburbs!

I grew up in Lincoln Park moved out to the Western Subs later. My parents are your neighbors. Right off Ogden Ave.

Haha that's awesome! I live about 5 minutes from Ogden near downtown Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills. You mentioned Hinsdale Hospital earlier, I live about 3 minutes from there as well - I was born at that hospital, but we were living in Glen Elyn at the time.

That's cool. My old stomping ground COD. We can talk on discord sometime. :)

@khaleelkazi I watched this post and followed the guide and was able to post a dtube video without any problems, maybe you should give it a try too! He used a software called HandBrake to render the videos to make them ready for dtube
https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@valorforfreedom/qa4wjec6

The quality was more or less good, but i think it can still improve, but maybe that's not something you can work on, on your end

Hey @teutonium! Funny thing - I actually stumbled across the very same post when I was trying to upload, but the handbrake app still didn't help my video get uploaded. The encoded video that it outputted was still incompatible with dtube - but that could be from user error on my part.

I ended up using a different app to encode it and finally got it to work. I'm going to compile my notes on that topic and post it just in case anyone runs into the same situation that I found myself in!

Yeah the quality is definitely something I want to work on, but as you say, it may just be the limitations of Dtube being 720p when the actual footage was shot in 4k. But hey, at least we have 720p now instead of 480p, am I right!?

Strange, it worked very easily for me...
Yeah you are 100%, i'm really impressed with the amount of work some of the witnesses do in steemit, just dtube/dmania and dsound make me believe in this platform, now that you remind me of it, isn't @heimindanger a witness? just checked and he is not... how can it be that with a platform like dtube he is not a witness... he should be earning for it!

Yeah I saw many others who had success with that method, I'm not entirely sure why it works for some and not others. hmm I never actually wondered about him being a witness. Dtube does take a 25% cut from each post though. I'm not sure where that % goes to, to be honest.

I keep getting the same IPFS issues, my solution is to log out, reboot and log back in, sometimes D-Tube is really frustrating!
Suggestions? I cannot honestly differentiate between your 2.7k quality and 480! So i would say, save your processing power and stick to 480p for the time being.
Also i would change the size of your D-Tube image/link for this post, they tend to be always too small!

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm trying to find a way to upgrade the quality so that you can distinguish it from other videos. Hopefully I can find a solution.

As for IPFS. I used a program called Screenflow to turn the video into an MP4 with this type of encoding: H.264, AAC

I think that specific encode somehow agrees with Dtube better. I'm not exactly sure why, but videos won't work unless I convert them to that specific format.

Dtube definitely will be a missive platform and I totally agree with that my friend. I wish you the best with your DTube goals :)

Oh yeah, I love dtube and I’m excited to see it grow! Im grateful to be in it this early!

Wohoo! Up up and away. Superb quality man. Seems like I’ve gotta get my own one now 😆

Up up and away indeed! Thanks @danielwong! I highly recommend this type of drone - it's pretty easy to fly and the video quality it outputs is truly amazing. On dtube it looks ok in 720p, but the original was shot in 4k and looks 10x better on my end! Hopefully we can see dtube take yet another leap from 720p to 4k at some point!

Mavic air meets d.tube Hd.. didn't expect anything less. Wonderful shots brilliantly made. Maybe we should shoot a movie

Haha that is a great idea! I’m just getting into filming and editing and have bought a lot of new camera equipment recently! Hopefully I can make a dtube video every day - that’s my goal!

That's very good buddy, would always visit your blog daily to check it up.. good luck

Amazing! So steady and clear. Love the quality.

wow lovely video......

Looks good! I like that you included some background music too.

You have share a great video a d fine is suparb and infact HD. used to be truly questioning the motive you had a tough time importing the video turned into coz of the video length.almostly a great post

Congratulations.... like the hare and the turtle, persistence wins the race.

Hi. I was left wanting to continue watching the video. You see a person walking, and the train. Great friend Thank you.

Agreed. I enjoy watching this type of video and would love to see more action down below. That camera took really high quality images.

Well done @khaleelkazi !
I like the persistence in the intensive research so that the video can be uploaded. The video is really great and well captured. very interesting for engineers.
Thanks for the great work done. waiting for the tutorials!
