Came upon this during a morning hike with my son. He wanted to know if this tree was haunted.
This is actually a live oak that is no longer "live." It sounds funny to call it a dead live oak, doesn't it? This tree was likely killed by the drought of 2011. That year, we had scorching heat with no rain for months. That this tree is still standing, five years on, is a testament to how dense these live oaks are in the Hill Country of Texas.
