A View from the Brocken - LessHorrible Photo

A landscape shot from close to the peak of the Brocken in the Harz Mountains in Germany.

This region is famous for its many stories and legends. One of these stories has a tradition attached to it which is still followed to this day - Walpurgisnacht.

Legend has it that the witches would gather in the Harz mountains during Walpurgisnacht to celebrate and indulge in any sin known to man. The devil himself is said to be a regular at this annual event.

Walpurgisnacht is also a key scene in one of the greatest German theatrical works: Faust by Goethe.
