I've mentioned before that I live on the edge of a National Forest in the past before, but now I can show you what it looks like as it comes alive. The photo above is just of prickly pear cactus.
Called nopales here.
And it's thriving this year so far.
The Flor de Mayo trees have reawoken.
And some are being eaten by vines.
The ficus tree, which is a pretty common tree here, is exploding with growth. It has a huge canopy.
This time of year it leaves these little green flowers on the ground when it's tiny flowers get pollinated.
Wild beans are one of the weeds here. I am not sure if they are edible or not.
So many different kinds of legumous trees, related to beans. These are nitrogen fixers.
In the dead center you'll notice a small yellow fruit, the nance fruit. Mexican's love it, but it hasn't grown on me. The dogs love it too
Here they are unripe
Up close shot of the stem of a wild Mexican marigold.
We have inca berries, like a sort of wild sweet tomatillo. This is a flower from one.
The little yellow fruits grown in those tiny lanterns.
This is a nance tree that was trimmed nearly bare before we moved in as it is today, lots of growth has happened.
Sea of legumous tree seedlings.
This is a cassava plant, from my understanding.
We have wild passionfruit as well.
There used to be tomatoes in there...
The big dark green things are mexican marigold.
This plant is quite possibly my LEAST favorite.
It takes over a garden like no other.
Those little burrs you see on the stems are no joke, they'll give you a super itchy rash in a matter of seconds.
Hate this vine, even if it is fascinating.
The poor kohlrabi are being eaten.
As is the rest of the garden. We've got lots of work to do but thankfully our compadre has come to visit and agreed to start helping us with work around the farm. Stay tuned for updates!
Thanks for following and supporting us, until next time!
Interesting series.

That cactus looks awesome. I wish it was more common around here in northeast USA, cactus tacos are awesome.
You've got quite an eye for the foliage... I walk around in the woods behind my house w/ my dogs all the time, but I don't know what anything is!! the shame..

I used to be like that. It just takes putting in the time to ask the right questions. I started by identifying things where I was from a few years ago, but now that I've moved to a completely different climate I've had to start over in many ways.

That jungle grows really fast! Vines are something else when it comes to spreading fast! That little white flower is pretty. Is that the passionflower? It looks like your kohlrabi are doing pretty good under all that growth. I hope yo find your tomatoes! :D

The jungle is a force to be reckoned with. The white flower is just a little flower off of a plant that grows all over here, I don't know what it's called yet.
The wild passion flowers are just little simple versions of the big ones, I'll eventually capture one of those.

Thanks for telling about the little white flower. The passionflowers I'm used to have such beautiful, complicated flowers. But I just don't know about the jungle versions, lol. Good luck with your passionflower photo sessions!
