These pictures were take while hiking along the Amathole hiking trail, on the escape route between day five and day six of the hike. The sundews were right next to the trail in a very wet area half way up a slope, all clustered in a group. This is the third place that I have seen sundews grow naturally. The other two places are the Drakensberg Mountain Range and the Magaliesburg Mountain Range. I know of one other place in South Africa where sundews grow wild and that is Table Mountain in Cape town.

In some of the pictures you can see in what conditions they grow, how small this specific type is and the insects that got trapped on their leaves. The "dew drops" on the leaves are made up of a sticky substance that smells sweet to attract insects. The stems that these drops are on the tips of release digestive enzymes to digest the insects and then is absorbed for nutrients, as they grow in soil that is very nutrient poor. This allows them to grow without much competition from other plants. The "stalks" that grow up out of them are their flowers, unfortunately none of the flowers were open that day.
