What’s a Photobook?

in photography •  7 years ago

Hello, Steemit friends! In this post I will be talking about a fairly common yet very striking subject, and is the Photobook.

Surely you have seen the photos I've been uploading on Steemit about a model named Enza. I've purposely published these photos since they are part of "what is a Photobook", and will serve as an example to continue developing the subject. If you haven't seen them already, click here: Enza 1, Enza 2, Enza 3.

We can define Photobook as a set of photographs about an object or person that will form a photographic series. It can be printed or digital. These photographic series doesn't have to respond to a story we want to tell, although it must have a thread, a meaning or reason to be.

What do I mean by this?

The thread in a Photobook can correspond to the person or object which will be photographed, and also, the reason for which this type of photographic session is carried out. Eg: A wedding, a session for a model, a session for a baby, etc... All these scenarios have a relation in common: There is a motif, and this motif goes hand in hand with the persons or objects present in the photos.

But remember: we mentioned that Photobook is the set of photographs, and those photographs must have a thread (even if they don't tell you a story in itself). You can vary the person or object within the set of photos, but the reason should be the same because otherwise, it would be somewhat complicated to interpret what our session is about. The motif can be, for example, a nude, and from that motif you can build your photographs changing models, positions or poses and some elements within the photographic scene, but, do you know which another factor can influence the thread / motif?

The light.

If we do a photo session to a model, and in the photos we perceive changes in light - a day photo followed by a night photo -, maybe we should have to explain a little about what it's all about (and even more if within the session we changed the model). Therefore, I recommend that you consider the light when making photos as this factor can be a huge influence when we make an interpretation of them.

And if you've noticed, I have added some photos that are part of a Photobook. Can you see that there is a relationship between the photos? Beyond the model, you can perceive how the other factors I've mentioned above are working together.

Don’t limit yourself, use your imagination.

I hope you liked my post!
