My favorite spiral staircases 🌀

For my photograpy I am always looking out for beautiful architecture, like buildings or artworks.
For me, the most special type of architecture is the hidden one: the spiral staircases.

They can most of the time be found in multi level office buildings and are really fun to discover.

My favorite staircase is located in Den Bell, Antwerp, Belgium.

There is an whole niche on photography platforms like Instagram and 500px around these geometrical wonders.

On Instagram there's even a special tag and day for posting your finds. #staircasefriday or #treppenhausfreitag
You'll know when it's Friday when your stream is filled with twirls🌀

Amazing how much detail and craftsmanship went into creating this staircase.

In my hometown, Utrecht, The Netherlands there are several beautiful staircases.
These two are my favorite, a classic squared one located in the city castle, Oudaen

And a small, but wide round one,leading to an skylight

It might surprise you, but I went for a day to Barcelona just to hunt and photograph spiral staircases.
I felt like a small kid on a scavenger hunt :-).

Yes, this is a staircase. Let me show you how it looks like from the top to proof it.

When I was photographing in Frankfurt am Main, Germany I went searching for a special triangle staircase.

As you can see, stairs are not only a way to get you an floor up or down, they can also be a piece of art.
That's why I always take the stairs...
