Armillaria ostoyae - Hat diameter 30 to 110 mm, first hemispherical, later arched, flat. Surface dry, fleshy, rusty-brown, red-brown, densely covered with protruding, dark scales; the shells with age fall out by themselves or can easily be wiped off.

Lamellae quite thick, broadly attached to the stipe or slightly converging; whitish, yellowish, flesh-colored, with age with rusty spots.

Stem 40 to 120 mm high, 10 to 20 mm thick. Cylindrical, lobed, at the base thickened; color of the hat or lighter, in the upper part whitish, rusty bottom. Surface longitudinally fibrillose, with large residues of whitish casing and brownish wisps.

Thick, wadded ring, with dark wisps on the blade.

Hard, elastic, whitish pulp; in the stalk and in the old age, it is gelled. The smell is weak, pleasant, fungus; mild taste, after a long time scratching.

Occurrence: In coniferous and mixed forests, especially in spruce; on living and dead wood, stumps, roots, at the base of coniferous tree trunks, rarely deciduous. It grows in tufts; from September to November. Frequent.

Value: Mushroom, very tasty. Only hats, preferably young ones, are suitable for consumption; in the raw state or undercooked in susceptible people can cause poisoning. It is recommended to pre-boil the fruiting bodies for a few minutes and pour out water and boil longer than other fungi.
