This is one of my favorite sculptures at SFMOMA:

It's by Ruth Asawa; I was reminded of it because she was featured on the @womensart1 account on Twitter.. She and her family were interned during World War 2; afterwards she studied at the influential Black Mountain College--- a hub for 20th century contemporary art. Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, John Cage, Elaine de Kooning, Willem de Kooning, and Buckminster Fuller all spent time there.

I like it a lot, @markgritter! What material is it made from?

The SFMOMA catalogue says "iron, copper, and brass wire" but I don't know exactly what that means. It's woven together, and some of her pieces are just one continuous wire, but since they list three materials I'm guessing this is made from multiple wires.

I do jewelry, so I get it with the explanation. The wire that is used contains those metals in it! Thank you for the information and the fast response! Have a great day, @markgritter!
