May Day

in photography •  6 years ago

We went to the market square today afternoon. On May Day, the square is usually full of people and vendors and this year was no exception, the only ones of which happen when the weather is truly shitty. It was about 16 C this afternoon. It hasn't snowed here in recent days like in Tampere yesterday. We may get some snow showers on Friday, though.

That's a pretty typical sight with all the balloons and vendors selling various types of trinkets, clothes, food, sweets etc. There were no communists. I think they had given up and gone home already. I can't blame them for all this eggregious commercialism on display breaking their spirits.

Some vendors have already closed shop. I wonder if the elderly gentleman in the foreground is calling someone to ask them to pick him up and take him home.

Every conceivable flavour of licorice. Our people are crazy about it. The other day, one of the leading tabloids even had headlines screaming about the deadly tendency of licorice to raise blood pressure.

Kids love those. I wonder how high such a helium balloon would rise.

My daughter looking at some trinkets. I questioned the value of such items already as kid. She didn't want me to buy any of them to her.

It would be cool to see those legs walk on their own controlled by a computer and powered by set of servos. Talk about an attention grabber!

Those white caps some of the people in the picture are wearing are given to upper secondary school graduates. Even many old people wear them on May Day because May Day is considered a celebration of workers and students. I don't wear any such caps. The custom is somewhat outdated in my opinion.

Something for kids again.

An ice cream van. We were late to buy anything but the owner gave me permission to photograph it. She confirmed that it was a former ambulance. The ice cream machine was inside the van. The booth on a trailer was where it was sold from.

We used to live on the opposite end of that lake until we moved to the house we live in now.

The platform looks slightly bent.

That crap is actually rotten leaves brought to the shore by the wind.

Those houses have enviable locations, except this area is a little bit far from the city center.

Interesting post. Lol those legs would attract attention and would be quite funny. I think we are lucky that communism never succeeded as I could think of nothing worse.
