Found A Skull In The Driveway! Anyone Know What It Is?

It was a nice day today so I decided to take a short walk around the house and enjoy the fall weather. As I was walking I noticed something out of place...

There was a skull in my driveway!!

Living out in the woods I'm use to finding dead animals. Our five cats alone bring home dead mice, birds, lizards, etc. Not long ago I found a dead beaver out in the yard. Seeing this skull in the driveway was a surprise because my cats kills are usually still juicy and fresh. I never find bones. I tried looking up the usual animals we have opossums, raccoons, beavers, etc. but I'm not sure what the thing was.

It's A Very Photogenic Skull!

The skull smelled horrible so I just moved it around with a stick. The sun was shining on it in such a picturesque way that I had to take a few pictures. Shame the animal had to die but it's remains had a sense of beauty to them as the setting sun shined on them making the white of the bone glow.

Scattered Skull Bits (Okay not so picturesque)

I thought maybe it might be a cat skull but I'm really not sure. The eyes kind of look similar but the nose area isn't from pictures I'm seeing.

Anyone have any guesses?

It looks fairly small, with very large eyes and some crazy canines for the size. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the eyes appear to be side-facing, not front-facing, which would seem to favor a prey rather than a predator. Rodents generally have large buck teeth, but this skull may have lost those. I'm no expert, though, so I could be way off. As a guess, perhaps a bat? It's hard to judge the size...

Interesting find, though!

It won't let me edit for some reason but I was trying to add that it is small. About the size of a baseball. I thought for a minute it was the beaver I found from a few weeks ago but the skull shape doesn't fit. Bat is a good guess. I'd agree its probably a rodent.

Oh yeah, that's much too big for a bat or a mouse, then, unless it's an ROUS.

It looks like cow but I don't know! But you sure find the darnedest things!! Lol your posts are always captivating🌷

I forgot to say it was a tiny skull...bout the size of a baseball. It was an interesting find.

Definitely looks feline... most likely the bridge of the nose just deteriorated and fell out. Interesting!

I agree, feline. Probably a stray kitty crying_cat.jpg

Carnivore, judging from those fangs. The size suggests cat, but it could easily be something else. Cool find!

Look at those canines! Ew I can't imagine how bad the smell must've been.

I was thinking it may be a fox. The head is small.

No idea, but seems like large K9 teeth.
