My new direction with SteemIt

in photography •  7 years ago

After a few months on SteemIt and a lot of experimentation, I've finally decided how I'm personally going to use SteemIt.

I've tested posting information and education around marketing and I've also shared a lot about my own cryptocurrency journey. I've used it to share what I was learning about SteemIt as well as a platform for curating content that I've created on other platforms.

After all of that, I've decided that I'm essentially going to make SteemIt my personal blog.

For business and marketing stuff, I post frequently over at Evergreen Profits. I don't really feel a strong need to repost that type of stuff here.

Instead, I'm going to use SteemIt to give insights into my regular life.

Here's what I'm into and what I'll be posting about:

  • Cryptocurrency - Although my posts about my cryptocurrency journey have been met with very little feedback, I'm going to keep sharing my journey... Because it's a passion of mine. It's what I get excited to talk about... And I know it's helping some people, even if they're people whose upvotes don't take me too far. I'm here to share my world. If I earn from it, that will be a happy byproduct of my efforts.
  • Photography - Snapping photos with my DSLRs and my myriad of lenses and gear as well as the fun iPhone photos has always been a favorite hobby of mine. I'm even hoping to get a DJI Mavic soon and add arial photography to my skillset as well. Right now, my favorite styles of photography are landscape and urban cityscape type photos, although I'm constantly experimenting.
  • Travel - I haven't been traveling a lot lately. Ever since our two kids came along, our travel life really slowed down. However, our kids are getting to an age where they'd really appreciate the travel now too. So we're planning on getting out and doing more of it. This is great for my photography passion as well. As we travel more and more, I'd love to share that on SteemIt as well.
  • Notes / Thoughts / Random Musings - My most popular post is actually a set of notes that I took on a podcast that was impactful to me. It took me forever to craft those notes into a post that people would enjoy. However, it paid off in the end. So you'll get the occasional notes and random thoughts from me... Because, well... why not. This is my new personal blog where I can blog about whatever I want.

I'll just be keeping the business, entrepreneurship, marketing stuff to the pre-established popular blog over on Evergreen Profits.

I know I'm not the best photographer on earth but it's something that I think I'm getting better at over time... Here's a a few of my favorite photos I've taken...

Some of these photos are older now. But I'll be sharing my more recent work on my SteemIt blog.

I think this personal blog approach will be a winner... If nothing else, it'll be a good outlet for me to share what I'm doing and look back at it myself one day.

I'd love your thoughts.

Also, I'm interested in connecting with more like-minded individuals on SteemIt. So comment and let me know if you're into this stuff so I can follow you back.

I've agreed on the same strategy - here for personal stuff. If you want to make it on here as a relative newbie, I think it really depends on finding a niche and engaging with a few or the more experienced minnows and 'dolphins' - curation I think is the key, quality content alone is insufficient for success.

Agreed. One thing I'm uncertain about is what constitutes curation? Is it simply upvoting posts that you find valuable or is it upvoting AND commenting? I don't seem to get much traction by simply upvoting the stuff that I find valuable. However, I do seem to get little trickles of love when I upvote AND comment.

What are your thoughts?

'curation' just means upvoting, commenting counts as authoring (technically as far as rewards are concerned), although In think when people on here talk about curating, they mean both. Both are best I think.

Check out @abh12345's curation competition, I think you'll like it.

Thanks for recommendation. I'll give it a look.

Just keep at it. I post about my investing journey and about my orchid photography. Seldom do my posts make a big hit - being in the far end of the world in time zones does not help. My community seems to live in Indonesia and India/Pakistan.

After posting 168 posts on investing and 77 on orchids, the results do stack up. Keep at it. A quick look at my wallet will show you how I know.

now one of your posts did get my attention and it is a foundation stone of my altcoins portfolio investing. You can see that here http://mymark.mx/BehindTIB5. You will find episodes 6 and 7 go a bit furhter - use the same URL link - just change the 5 to a 6 or 7. Or search on Steemit - "Behind the TIB" to find them all

Thanks for the encouragement @carrinm! I just followed you so I can watch your cryptocurrency journey as well. I actually love making those posts because it forces me to consistently check-in on my portfolio, analyze what to do, and make moves. Despite the low response rate on those posts, I still have the sense of being accountable to the world since I've posted about it in a public forum. :)

I love SteemIt and will continue to plug away and share into my little world.

I use it for pretty much the same thing. I’m interested in continuing to read your work.
