This is a view from the hallway window on the 45th floor (top) of my building on the West Side of midtown Manhattan.
You can see the Intrepid Air and Space Museum at Pier 84. The embayment to the left of the aircraft carrier (museum) is icing over. That water moves much less since it's protected by the piers on either side. Even still, you can see the ice beginning to extend out into the unprotected waters.
But don't lace up those ice skates just yet, boys and girls. If you fall in you'll likely suffer the same fate as Jack in the movie Titanic. Hypothermia will kill you pretty quickly with both the water and air temperature being what they are. And with that cheery thought - enjoy the beautiful view!

P.S. Notice the totally bogus tag of 'ripple' Let's see what that does since that alt-coin is trending now. ;)
It's "hypothermia" (Hyperthermia is more likely if you fall in lava, although it would be brief... :-) )

Your comment got me steemed up! ((not really but I like the steem/thermal coincidence) Thanks for pointing that out - my sloppiness - since I do know the difference. Corrected now
Maybe I should have claimed that there was lava under the ice... I'll try that next time.
