A tribute to the beautiful city of Bacau, Romania!

Most people don't know about Bacau, but I think everyone should! It's a city of 144.000 inhabitants, founded in 1408 (!!!), in the eastern part of Romania, relatively close to the Moldavian borders.

I first visited Bacau almost 2 years ago, for Christmas, since it's where @creutzy grew up, and loved it immediately!
Everyone who doesn't know anything about it or people who lived there (including @creutzy :P ) would argue that it's nothing particularly special, but I beg to differ as I think it is a very diverse city which reminds me of Athens actually! -Maybe that's why I felt 'at home' right away there :) - It has the traditional classic Romanian architecture charm which blends with modern, and innovative if you ask me, architecture!

Enjoy a tour in amazing Bacau, and consider putting it in your travel wish list - it does deserve it and it's in a strategic position which allows visiting other beautiful spots around Romania as well!
And don't forget to smile!

The Municipal Theater 'Bacovia', with a long history - the first theatrical performance took place here in 1848 !

The Ascension Church of Bacau, constructed in 1991, is one of the largest orthodox churches in Romania, 70 meters tall and has the biggest main cross in the country (seven meters high)! The church has 18 bells, 30 kg each (!!) fabricated in Innbruck, Austria. 13 of them are computer synchronized and they can play 1000 different songs! Even though it is not actually the Cathedral, since there are no based bishops there, because of its size and importance the locals call it 'Cathedral'.

Another view of the Ascension Church - it is really huge!!

View from the hill close to the city!

I've never heard of Bacau. It looks beautiful.
What was your favorite experience there?

It is indeed !!! But, yes, no one has haha ;)
I really loved the Café du Theatre [ https://www.facebook.com/Caf%C3%A9-du-Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre-Bacau-233327090066507/ ], right next to the Theater I posted, with amazing decorations and totally theatrical atmosphere!
Also, I loved the view from the Transylvania Bank skyscraper where there is a wonderful café, but I keep this one for another post ;)
Last but not least, the different churches, orthodox and catholic, I've seen!
Unique experience, really!

beautiful

it is, isn't it?? thank you :)

Nice article, @meanmommy33!

Thank you! It's the result of love - I immediately fell in love with the city, and ignored anyone who said it's not beautiful !!! :D

:D

Nice shots but it doesn't really have that much to offer to outside visitors. Most people living there can't wait to get out of town when they have some days off.

This happens in every city in the world when you live there - it doesn't matter if it's Paris, Rome, Copenhagen or Athens (and I've lived in all of those), when you get days off you just want to escape from the place you live in, no matter how beautiful.
Also, we tend to stop seeing its beauty when our every day life is based there...
You know my views about Bacau, so I still disagree with you, but as I mentioned, it is also a nice place as a 'hub', that you can stay to travel around ;)

As you wish... :) As a local, I still think that it is kinda gray and dull. Most of the time it is raining anyway. When that isn't happening, it is either extremely hot or extremely cold (+38 Celsius to -23 Celsius is not that uncommon in a year).

Gray yes, dull no... Athens is gray - I don't think anyone would dare calling it dull though haha...
Well, about the rain...even if it was in the middle of Christmas time, I didn't see any - as obvious in my pictures ;) And it wasn't extremely cold either!! It was cold, but ok December cold...
