Magic Moments - Colorful Dreaming

in photography •  7 years ago

Time for another Magic Moment. I've now been visiting the Geroldsee Lake for eight years and I was able to take many beautiful photos. At least I consider them beautiful ;-)

But from all my visits to this lake one stands out. It was 2011 in July, if I remember correctly. I was visiting the area for the third time already but hadn't come away with any great photos yet.

As I drove towards the mountains in the evening it was raining and the forecast for the next morning also wasn't very promising. But sleeping in wasn't an option for me. When it comes to landscape photography I'm always motivated to get up and give it a try. Even, if it's pouring.

After some stormy and rainy weather you can get the most intense displays of light - if you're lucky. And I was lucky this morning.

Colorful Dreaming

As I got up 90 minutes before sunrise and looked out of the window I could already make out a little gap in the eastern sky. With the thick clouds still overhead I knew that there was a chance for something special to happen. So I hurried and made my way to the lake.

I didn't have to wait long for the show to start. Sky and mountains began to glow in intense red colors. It was like a dream and I couldn't believe my eyes.

Geroldsee

It doesn't happen very often that I get this lucky. Those magic moments are rare, but because of this even more special. It doesn't matter, if I get up 10, 20 or a 100 times for sunrise and don't get such light. The reward of being there when all finally falls into place always makes up for it.

wooowwww those are some pretty cool pics! what camera did you use for this if i may ask? and is this all natural or did you edit this? it really looks greaaatt! great job! :)

Hello @andywong31 Back then I was still using a Canon 40D, but nowadays I'm shooting with a Canon 5DSR. I usually use GND filters to balance the exposure in my photos but I also edit them afterwards to reflect the atmosphere of the morning. Since I only shoot raw, the photos out of camera will never look like what was in front of the camera, so they usually need some attention in Photoshop ;-) Maybe I'll post a few before and after photos in the future.

cool! those were some pretty great pics! thanks for the response though! appreciate it! :)
