Great St. Bernard Pass at 2,473 m (8,100 ft) - well above the tree line - is the third highest road pass in Switzerland.
It connects Martigny, in the canton of Valais in Switzerland, with Aosta in the region Aosta Valley in Italy. It is the lowest pass lying on the ridge between the two highest summits of the Alps, Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa.

Great St. Bernard is the most ancient pass through the Western Alps, with evidence of use as far back as the Bronze Age and surviving traces of a Roman road. In 1800, Napoleon's army used the pass to enter Italy.

It has breath taking, rugged views, with snowy patches even in the middle of Summer. The attached photos were taken July 8, 2017. I hope that you will enjoy them. Michael

Hello @michaelphoto Very nice view, incredible. Please Upvote, Resteem and Follow me @sanu thank you

You forgot to mention the most fascinating fact, that there is evidence St. Bernards were actually bred specifically to be search and rescue dogs to find travelers who got lost during snows storms and avalanches in that pass. They were based out of the monastery established by St. Bernard. Fun facts!

Right! ;)
