This is definitely a place to visit before it becomes too touristy, because it already is to an extent. Easy access via the light rail to the station of the same name, one will be in the midst of locals doing their groceries here.
The alleys are covered, sheltered from the elements. It is pleasant to walk, and there both fresh food and restaurants/cafes in the market as well. For us what stood out particularly were the fruit stalls. They are so varied and fresh that we bought quite some.
Don't just stay around the covered alleys, for the market extends around it too. We found fine wine shops and a delectable stall along Agripas street selling snacks made with all manner of nuts. For those who wish to send postcards, the post office is just a little further along this street. Just make sure you select the waiting ticket option of a single transaction payment (which is faster).
The market is said to be open 24 hours, but really best time is around 11am when most of the shops are open.
Amazing shoots!
