Last night was the longest lunar eclipse of the century lasting a total of 1 hour 42 minutes. The eclipse was also called the Blood Moon since the shadow of the Earth on the moon made it appear reddish.
This was relatively close to the beginning of the eclipse so you can see Earth's shadow on the left side of the moon. As the eclipse progressed the shadow slowly moved from the left of the moon to it's right.
I initially found a sport close to the highway and even minute vibrations from passing cars made my images blurry.
I used my Cannon 50D EOS and 18-135 lens at it's extreme zoom (with a tripod of course) so I had to find a better location.
I was able to find an out of the way field with lots of other astronomy buffs and I stayed there till the end of the eclipse.
Last night was also a special night since Mars was aligned with the earth and sun in such a way as to receive the full light of the sun making it shine as bright as a full moon in the sky next to the eclipsed moon.
And here is a frame with only Mars shining in it,
Here is a wider frame showing the moon, mars and some of the landscape,
Closer to the end of the eclipse the this is what the moon looked like, with the Earth's shadow on the right side of the moon,
And here's the last picture of the night when we can already see the regular shine of the moon on the left side while the right side still has a trace of the shadow,
I'll be happy to see your impressions of the eclipse so feel free to share or link in the comments.
Hope you enjoyed my images of the eclipse and I hope to see you all here for the next one on June 9, 2123.
Haha nice job man!
I definitely plan to be here for the next one 💪😄
