Bosphorus Photography Project - Introduction (English/Turkish)

For many years, I went to work passing by the Bosphorus. During these mandatory journeys, I realized that the view of the channel was different according to the time of day, the season, and the weather. It wasn't a very important discovery, of course, it wasn't even a discovery, it was a natural state. What surprised me was the extraordinary diversity of the view I saw. Because of the factors I mentioned above, there were so many combinations of colors, lights, and waves that I thought it would be best to put them together at a photo exhibition. There were two obstacles to do this. I wasn't a photographer, and I didn't have time for that.

My state of not being a photographer has not changed, I'm trying to improve myself by reading and practicing. On the other hand, I have time to devote to the subject and I have an audience to share the photos I have taken. Also, I need to take a walk because I'm constantly working at the desk. There is no obstacle for me to do these walks by the Bosphorus, which offers one of the most beautiful views in the world.

Due to its several features, the Bosphorus of Istanbul is a suitable place for photographing. Once you take a picture of the sea, you take a picture of the opposite shore. This means adding a new layer to the photo. You can take pictures of seabirds like seagulls and cormorants, as well as migratory birds like the storks over the channel. Fishing boats and ships passing through the channel add color to the landscape. The boats carrying passengers between the two sides of Istanbul have their own characteristics. There are many historical buildings on the shores of the Bosphorus and these historic buildings have their groves on the back. There are 3 suspension bridges on the Bosphorus and dolphins passing through the channel from time to time. In short, it has a lot of original objects that I can take pictures of.

How long do I plan to keep this photo series? I intend to keep it for about a year so I can cover all seasons. I can share one or two posts a week, depending on the situation. Of course, if I get bored in time or the Steemians get bored with the photos, I can end the project at an earlier time.

The cover photo is showing the third bridge of the Bosphorus which was opened two years ago. You see high-voltage lines cross the bridge. The ships in the back are entering the channel from the Black Sea. Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is located in Sarıyer district, the northernmost part of Istanbul.

There's a golden rule in writing that says "don't tell show". I guess this is a lot truer in photography. Let me go to the pictures without further ado.

I told you about the storks and the groves behind the buildings. The storks look vaguely in the picture. It's immigration season now.

And fishing boats...

Plane-trees give color to the shores of the Bosphorus. I like to photograph the trees, for some reason I don't know.

The banks on the edge of the Bosphorus seem to be melancholic when no one sits on them.

Boğaziçi Fotoğraf Projesi - Sunuş

Uzun yıllar boyunca İstanbul Boğazı'nın yanından geçerek işe gidip geldim. Bu zorunlu yolculuklarım sırasında boğazın görüntüsünün günün hangi saati olduğuna, mevsime, hava durumuna göre farklılaştığını fark ettim. Çok önemli bir keşif değildi elbette bu, hatta bir keşif bile değildi, son derece doğal bir durumdu. Beni şaşırtan nokta gördüğüm manzaradaki olağanüstü çeşitlilikti. Yukarıda saydığım etmenler yüzünden öylesine o kadar çeşitli renk, ışık, dalga kombinasyonları oluşuyordu ki bunları bir fotoğraf sergisinde bir araya getirmenin iyi olacağını düşündüm. Bunu yapmak için önümde üç engel vardı. Fotoğrafçı değildim ve konuya ayıracak zamanım yoktu.

Fotoğrafçı olmama halim bugün de değişmedi, okuyup pratik yaparak kendimi geliştirmeye çalışıyorum. Öte yandan konuya ayıracak vaktim ve çektiğim fotoğrafları paylaşacak bir izleyici kitlem var. Ayrıca, sürekli masa başında çalışır durumda olduğum için yürüyüş yapmaya ihtiyaç duyuyorum. Bu yürüyüşleri dünyanın en güzel manzaralarından birini sunan boğaz kıyısında yapmamın önünde bir engel bulunmuyor.

İstanbul Boğazı birkaç özelliği nedeniyle fotoğraf çekmek için uygun bir mekan. Bir kez denizin resmini çekerken karşı kıyıyı da fotoğraflıyorsunuz. Bu da fotoğrafa yeni bir katman eklenmesi anlamına geliyor. Martı ve karabataklar gibi deniz kuşlarının yanı sıra leylek gibi göçmen kuşların boğazda fotoğrafını çekebiliyorsunuz. Balıkçı tekneleri ve boğazdan geçen gemiler manzaraya renk katıyor. İstanbul'un iki yakası arasında kendine has özellikleri olan vapurlar sefer yapıyor. Boğaz kıyısında birçok tarihi bina, boğaz sırtlarında bu tarihi binalara ait korular var. Boğazın üzerinde 3 adet asma köprü, boğazın içinden zaman zaman geçen yunuslar var. Kısacası fotoğrafını çekebileceğim çok sayıda özgün obje ve nesne var.

Bu fotoğraf serisini ne kadar sürdürmeyi planlıyorum? Bir yıl kadar sürdürmek niyetindeyim ki tüm mevsimleri kapsamış olayım. Duruma göre haftada bir ya da iki paylaşım yapabilirim. Tabii zaman içinde sıkılırsam ya da fotoğraflar ilgi görmezse projeyi daha erken bir zamanda sonlandırabilirim.

Yazarlıkta "anlatma göster" diye altın bir kural vardır. Fotoğrafçılıkta herhalde bu çok daha fazla geçerli olsa gerektir. Lafı daha fazla uzatmadan fotoğraflara geçeyim.

Kapak resminde İstanbul'un iki yıl önce hizmete giren 3. boğaz köprüsünü görüyorsunuz. Köprünün üzerinden yüksek gerilim hatları geçiyor. Arkadaki gemiler Karadeniz'den boğaza giriş yapıyorlar. Yavuz Sultan Selim Köprüsü İstanbul'un en kuzeyinde, Sarıyer ilçesinde yer alıyor.

Leyleklerden ve yalıların ardındaki korulardan söz etmiştim. Leylekler resimde hayal meyal görünüyorlar. Şimdilerde göç mevsimi.

Tarihi çınarlar boğaz kıyısına rengini veren öğelerden. Ağaçların fotoğrafını çekmeyi seviyorum nedense.

Boğazın kıyısındaki banklar üzerlerine kimse oturmadığında hüzünlenmiş gibi duruyorlar.
