High concentration of miracles. Part 3

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

The classic example looks like this. One curious photographer came home, decides to take pictures and find out who he was looking for.

Well, if the Internet can find the names for half the animals in the photos. Then the thematic communities and the familiar biologists go (if any). But even after that, white spots often remain. And then the photo gets to the eyes of some truly specialized animal scientist. And then how lucky. Perhaps it is on the basis of your photo that a study will be conducted and a new species of some shrimp or shellfish will be isolated.

So the chances of meeting the "unknown" animal are greater than ever. Moreover, one can witness scenes of hunting and fighting for life, where one unseen creature tries to eat another one. Well, someone can become a victim of local fishermen, still sometimes use the dynamite ...

But there is in this wonderful place and its own fly in the ointment. For a naturalist, Lembeh is beautiful and almost has no flaws. But here's a pain for the photographer. Pain from the first day of stay until, probably, the last minute. And after the return, this pain does not abate too much. I'll try to explain. The fact is that it's very difficult to remove beautifully and interestingly. The objects themselves are often either clumsy, or merge with the background, or are catastrophically small. Sometimes finding a subject in a photograph is just as easy as in life. And to explain and tell about it to a stranger is completely impossible.

In addition, it is black volcanic sand, spoils 9 shots from 10ti. It is absolutely non-photogenic. And with a light movement, a cloud of dirt rises, which can not be removed. And as soon as photographers are not banished. And backgrounds bring with them. And outlandish lights use. But no one has come up with the ideal solution yet. As it was 10 years ago, so now.

I look at my old photos, compare them with modern and clearly see it. Yes, maybe today I would have taken off a little better myself. But still would not convey the atmosphere of this place, its feature. After all, miracles can not be preserved. You can only see them yourself.

The photos were taken on two trips at the Lembeh Strait.
In the next part, I'll tell you about another part of North Sulawesi. About Bunaken and Minahasa Lagoon.
