Mega Project - Malaysian oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) is developing a refinery and petrochemical integrated development project (RAPID) call Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) 

Phase 2 project. Location - Kampung Sungai Buntu, Pengerang Johor, Malaysia As you can see up to 500m> away from the beach development is underway. 

For the first phase, the villages are Sungai Kapal, Teluk Empang and Langkah Baik, while the second phase involves Sebong, Batu Mas, Java and Sungai Buntu. 

The main activities of Pengerang residents are agriculture and fisheries and the main attraction of tourists is Desaru resort. 

However, pengerang will be changing from 2013 when the Comprehensive Petroleum Integrated Petroleum (PIPC) Complex in an area of 8,000 hectares, started. 

The complex will place the Petroleum and Petrochemical Refinery Integrated Development Project (RAPID) developed by Petronas and the Deep Sea Petroleum Terminal by the Dialog Group and Royal Vopak and the Johor State Secretary Incorporated (SSI). 

When the two projects were completed and started their operations in 2017, Pengerang would turn into a leading oil and gas hub in the Asia Pacific and perhaps, comparable to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. 

 -The village has disappeared

Residents who are involved with the two mega projects will be moved according to phase starting March next year. Residents will not move empty hands, instead of cash compensation based on the value of their land, houses, crops and gardens. In addition, each landowner is given 0.8 hectares of agricultural land, a 6,000 sq ft residential land and subsidies for the cost of buying or building a new home at the site.
