Pecans, Pepitas & Walnuts (from left to right)

Pecan nuts contain monounsaturated fats such as oleic acid along with phenolic antioxidants which help reduce the risk of heart disease. According to the National Pecan Shellers Association, adding a handful of pecan nuts in your diet helps decrease LDL i.e. ‘bad cholesterol’ and increase HDL i.e. ‘good cholesterol’, which in turn prevent stroke and coronary artery disease.

A pepita seed is another name for a pumpkin seed.

Pepita is the edible seed of a pumpkin or certain other cultivars of squash. The seeds are typically flat and asymmetrically oval, have a white outer husk, and are light green in color after the husk is removed. The seeds are nutrient- and calorie-rich, with especially high content of fat (particularly linoleic acid and oleic acid), protein, dietary fiber, and numerous micronutrients. Although all nuts fit into a cancer-preventive diet, walnuts are most studied for cancer. They contain the omega-3 fat (alpha-linolenic acid), as well as high amounts of polyphenols and phytochemicals that have antioxidant properties.(source www.aicr.org)

I love to snack on all types of nuts and am always looking for new ones to try, much like a squirrel! Pepitas are my newest find.

I try to keep a stash of nuts handy both in my purse and in my Jeep as a "go-to" when I run errands, travel or just want a quick healthy boost.

Thankfully nuts are healthy for you, but like everything else, eat in moderation.

Well I never use microwaves as I don’t like or trust how they work but I have cooked many pecan bars so yes I love the taste of toasted pecans DELICIOUS!!!! 😍

I never knew that pumpkin seeds are called Pepita. Hahaha! 😂 I googled it right after I saw the picture and the names you listed. And only then I've learned about its name in North America. Amazing! 😂🤪

My mom's physician prescribed 5 different kinds of nuts a day. So, nuts are really good for our health.

Oh, I love to eat walnuts and almonds. Another favourite of mine are hazelnuts. I feel like squirrel too. 😉
As much as like them roasted, I know it is better to eat them raw.

Nuts and seeds for the win! I love them all! Well, except for hazelnuts, they unfortunately make my mouth itch, but luckily there are plenty of other varieties to enjoy. I pretty much always have some handy for snacks anywhere I am, as well. :)

I keep a bowl of nuts out to snack on as well! Usually two bowls, one with mixed nuts still in the shell, and the other with peanuts still in the shell. Having to shell them keeps me from gorging on them. :)
