Creating a dark rainy night on a bright sunny day!

The magic of photography! Here's how to capture a moody rainy night when it is a bright sunny day outside.

Tools used:

Plastic sheet, White Sheet, Clamps, C-Stand, Boom arm hanging colored lights in back, add glycerine to water in spray bottle to make larger water drops. Background doesn't matter - Shooting at f7.1, 125th, ISO 200 the Inverse Square Law assures it will go black. (explained below)

Rogue grid on speedlight with 1/2 CTO as main @ 1/16 power placed 4 feet in front slightly to right of subject.

Red Gel on Strobe to add outdoor atmosphere

Grid on Beauty Dish with a cut of CTO to add light to back of hair (was to right side when shot)..

Notice the background will be dark when shooting from this angle (even though it is white paper) because there is no light directed on it and the fall off from the other lights do not register when shooting at these camera settings. Of course had we changed the shutter speed to a much longer exposure (say 1/2 sec or full second), then we'd see more of the background.

Wow @njphotog. Really want to be in photography, this tips and tricks of yours are awesome. If i have the tools gonna try it also. Thanks.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Out of nowhere, a cinematic scene. Congratulations on that. I make my sculptures just because I wanna make portraits of them. I got no one to visit the studio, just like this moment you were having while making this photograph. I know how it feels.

It’s always good to practice concepts before shooting professionally. Experiment with the lights, placement, colors etc first and best not to waste time on the actual shoot. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who would appreciate having their image created by an artist like you.

Wow, this is a great idea! Thank you very much for this amazing post! I will keep eye on your work!
