The northern Golan streams do not flow all year, but in winter they have no competitors.
In light of the spring weather, my girlfriend and I decided to take a walk along the course of the Orvim stream, where water now flows in abundance due to the heavy rains that have hit our country in recent weeks.
The Orvim stream strives in the black basalt of the Golan Heights in a series of spectacular waterfalls that reach the white chalk rock near the Hula Valley.
The Golan Heights is seen as the land of water, where rivers flow all year round, just like in Europe.
Even during the summer months, when everything is yellow and dry, the streams of the Golan flow, giving the traveler some time out from the heavy summer heat.
However, not all the rivers of the Golan demonstrate their strength throughout the year.
In the northern part of the plateau, there are several streams that flow only in the winter because their water supply comes from high springs, whose irrigation ponds are relatively small, and some do not even come during the summer months.
In the winter, however, after the first rain sows the soil, the northern streams begin to absorb the large runoff that descends in the northern Golan, the region with the highest precipitation in the country, and the streams are returning to activity.
Usually, there are no flood events here, as in the south of the country, but the flow of streams sometimes lasts up to a month after the rains began.
Enjoy!
