Continuing on my posts about my trip to Alonissos last month, I present to you the glorious Beaches of Alonissos!
The island's coastline is formed by numerous small beaches, some accessible only by foot or boat. There are organized beaches with umbrellas and deck chairs, bars and taverns; but others are secluded, with nothing man-made: only the beauty of nature at its finest! There are almost no sand-beaches; the pebbles and rocks ensure that the waters remain crystal-clear, allowing you to see far underwater. Unfortunately I did not have a proper camera for underwater shots...
The northern part of the island is part of the National Marine Park, a protected area containing many animals and plants, including an endangered species of seal, Monachus Monachus, meaning "living alone" because these seals do not form large groups.
