Google's image recognition has gotten really good and I've been having fun typing random search words into my photo collection and seeing what it comes up with. Below is a selection of photos that showed up for "shadows".
Airbase Y2K
This first one is at sunset on the abandoned Alameda Airbase. The day was January 1st 2000. An auspicious day indeed - we survived the predicted Y2K catastrophe and the real catastrophe(s) were yet to come. Blissfully unaware for the gathering storm it was time to take a step back and contemplate the new millennium.
It is also one of my earliest digital photos and was the beginning of the end of my use of a film camera.
Solar Eclipses 2012
In 2012 there was a partial solar eclipse in California. Even though we got to around 75% eclipse where I was it was still amazingly bright. Here is a photo of a projection of the image on a wall.
During an eclipse all shadows take on interesting properties, shadows of small objects have little crescent effects. Here are many little eclipse shadows on a wall
Oklahoma City Memorial Park
This is from the memorial park in Oklahoma City, constructed where the Federal building once stood and 168 men, women and children died. It's a juxtaposition of our shadows with flags and the chairs on the lawn - one for each person who died on April 19, 1995.
Hawaii Stroll
This is from a short hike on the north west coast of Hawai'i aka "The Big Island". We saw the city where King Kamehameha was born. It was a desolate and windswept place with a clear via of Maui in the distance. Not your typical image of hot and sunny beaches on Oahu. There was a stone there used for human sacrifice - it was kind of eerie and we were completely alone going out and coming back. This sunset shot as we headed back to the car made the day.
Mission Hike
I wanted to fly at Mission Peak but it was too windy to my friends and I just hiked up. On the way down we caught the interesting clouds and some red shirted runners who'd just about run out of steam.
Mission Flight
This is from a day when I did fly at Mission Peak. A friend and I had a great flight until almost sunset and stopped to enjoy the remains of the daylight before packing up our wings.
Winter Lookout
This is standing on a bridge at Yosemite in January when it should have been frozen and snowy but it was actually unseasonably warm.
Hang loose!
And this is me, with my shadow juxtaposed with boot prints in the dirt.
Hang loose Steemians! I hope you enjoyed the shadowy show.
I love shadows photos!
