Just across the border from where I live there is this old watermill called the Haarmühle. It was built in 1619 on the spot of an older mill from 1331. Well worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood of Alstätte, Germany, near the Dutch border.

The mill is still operational, but only started up occasionally for tourists. It is picturesque from all angles, I will be going back to get some more pictures when the light is better.
Here's a picture of the gear box inside this watermill (repost):

It's all wood, and almost all connections are mortise-and-tenon. Some very nice old engineering there.
Great shots, @ocrdu. Old and vintage definitely lends to great photography. They just don't make them like they used to. That's for sure.

Thanks.
As an IT engineer and electronics hobbyist, I have grown to love mechanical solutions to problems, for their reliability, durability and predictability 8-).

Excellent photos. The Mill and water are great, and the inside workings as well. The wood/metal must lend a lot for more shooting in B&W. Look forward to seeing those, if you get to them...a series done inside of the internals and all the things that make it work as a mill would be interesting. [ Your next 3 days are set : `) ]
Thanks.

Thank you.
Photographing the internals is a pain; when they are accessible to the public, there are too many people inside to get good shots. I had to persuade 12 people to step outside for a moment just to get the gearbox shot.

That's too bad...sometimes them durn people do get in the way. Such is life I suppose. Maybe you can bribe the night-door-guards with snacks to let you in with the flash : `)

Second picture is great! Love old and rough things frozen in time.

So do I, especially mechanical engineering in wood and steel.
