Yesterday, we saw some large red damselflies (Pyrrhosoma nymphula), vuurjuffers in Dutch, depositing eggs on floating stuff:
Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/400s
The males don't let go after mating; the pair flies about and deposits eggs together. This gives some extra protection against predators, and also makes sure the female can't mate with another male until the eggs have been deposited. I think it would be impractical for humans to do something similar.
The females of the much larger dragonflies deposit their eggs solo, while the males fly overhead to guard them:

I had to walk into the water still in my clothes, shoes and socks included, to get that shot, but it was well worth it.
The portrait is of a female blue emperor (Anax imperator), grote keizerlibel in Dutch, the largest dragonfly in The Netherlands, except for the very rare golden-ringed dragonfly.

Shots are really worth you soaking wet :) I have also had a luck several years ago to see (and make a photo) of birth of dragonfly. The process looks not too beautiful but very interesting )
