Don't try to walk here

A view of a part of the peat bog called Haaksbergerveen in The Netherlands:

Looks solid enough to walk on, doesn't it?

Good photo!

Thank you.

Very nice shot, but I was expecting a second view with one of your friends waist-deep. Or is that shot a subsequent post?

No, I don't have stupid friends 8-).

lol!

Great image
Yes it does look solid enough to walk across but seeing that it's a peat big I know it's far from an easy walk

I remember walking on the Isle of Skye. One second all was fine and then suddeny I was past my hip in the bog. Fortunately I was not alone.

It can be quite hard to get out, specially if you want your shoes to come out with you.

Is it wiggly, like a waterbed? Only one I saw in Minnesota years back was very mobile. Luckily I didn't wander about and lose shoes or something more important...

Sometimes, a layer of peat moss floating on a peat-bog pool is so compact and thick you can walk across it, and experience that waterbeddy feeling, but in the bit in the photo you will just sink up to about your chin. Inconvenient, but not really drowning.
