Frog Soup

The peat moss is growing nicely, giving some pools the appearance of thick pea soup with a frog here and there for meat:

Even where the growth is less abundant, the frogs are sitting noticeably higher in the water:

Peat is being formed here, which is why this area (the Aamsveen in The Netherlands) is known as a "living peat bog".

The life of a frog would be pretty good... escape the summer heat and chill in the water all day!

Must be a great life! There are many herons around in this area, though ...

And turtles... and fish... and snakes... all looking for a tasty frog to eat.
