Metallic Bug

in photography •  6 years ago  (edited)

This is a banded demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens), weidebeekjuffer in Dutch. It is about 45mm (1.8") long, and shiny.

It is not a rare species here in The Netherlands, and I have photographed these before, but I found this one in a place where they didn't use to dwell. It seems they are spreading, which is good.

Thanks for watching!

Gorgeous, your photos are always so spot on. If I didn't know better, I'd say you put them in the refridge for an hour or two, to slow them down. But I know better...

Where would be the sport in that? Never touch, manipulate, or bother them, I say. They all sit down at some point, so patience is all that is required, and the odd whisper ...

It is a well-known trick though, but it's just as easy to get up early before things heat up and they move a little more slowly. Well, getting up early isn't easy for me, but you know what I mean. This one was in the full heat of day, and they are more alert then, so you can make them look into the lens with a slight movement, just enough to get their attention without scaring them off. It's fun to do; no fridges for me. Or them.

Great detail on the wings @ocrdu!

Thanks, yes, the little bugger finally decided to sit still 8-).

Oh! It is all in the details!

I love its shimmery little body and the wings are drawn to perfection. Nice job!

Thank you. It took ages to draw them.

Not scared of weird bugs then, are you?

Hey! Let's not get carried away. ;)

You really shouldn't write such comments asking for votes and follows; you may be flagged for them at some point.

Found some nice shots there, though.

Das ist wirklich eine fantastische Aufnahme!

Danke!

Nice bug, thanks for the plug. It's nice to see the plan being somewhat tested as well. That was cool. One 100% vote. 50% vote for the bug, 50% for your theoretical ad revenue.

Amazing colour!

It even changes depending on the angle of the light. In the shade, they are a very deep blue.

That is a beautiful bug and such amazing shot. The way you captured it is extraordinary 👍
Amazing color on it. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend. Cheers!
