Only One Angle Available

in photography •  6 years ago  (edited)

Without climbing a tree, this was the only angle I could find to photograph this damselfly. Not that I'm complaining; I like the way the photo turned out:

Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO125, f5.6, 1/500s

I like this shot for its composition, but it is not an optimal photo for species determination.

Still, there's enough here to see that it's a large red damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula), vuurjuffer in Dutch. A male, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for watching!

Work of art, @ocrdu ....

Ha! You are amazing! You could do an ID from a quarter mile away! And I wouldn't put it past you to climb the tree to get the shot. Love the perspective.

I have in the past; some butterflies never seem to come down ...

I believe it. Your photos are so amazing that I'm pretty sure you often go to extremes to capture them!

This one in particular insists on never leaving its favourite tree top:

A real pain, that one is.

Both are one-handed shots, for the obvious reason 8-).

Yep! You continuously amaze me! Is your photo collection complete or are there still species in your region that you are hoping to find?

It is far from complete; there are quite a few of the rarer species I haven't seen yet. I don't usually actively search for them though, I just walk around and photograph what I see.
