Beer Shopping In DubaisteemCreated with Sketch.

As I promised yesterday here is a new story.

This paragraph is for @dswigle only:

Last year on vacation in Dubai.

And for the rest and her of course; the story goes like this:

If you live in Dubai you need permission from the government to buy alcohol.

They have special liquor stores and you get the monthly quota.

Not to mention the price. Crazy.

But as usually where there is a will there's a way.

Expats and locals find a cheaper way to get what they want. There is a place with cheaper alcohol beverages in unlimited quantities.

Well, the size of your car's trunk is the limit actually.

You need to drive two emirates further but luckily there are no borders between them.

The only drawback is the distance.

I checked. It's exactly 93 kilometers. In one direction.

You saw this photo a couple of times but now you know when I took it.

And somehow I need to get the attention to my post.

Through the desert,

passing aircraft graveyard.

Happy New Year in March.

This is the closest and only shot of the liquor store before the warning.

Locals don't want to be seen on camera buying alcohol.

That's not me but store worker who did the heavy lifting for us.

I told you about the trunk earlier and here's the proof.

The grey bags are the ones we counted after they were delivered in our room.

We bought some Russian beer too. It was on sale.

Not bad at all.

Maybe it was transported by that old plane from the third photo.

Well, that was my bedtime story for today.

Cheers, and drink responsibly, my friends.

Makes you appreciate getting booze so easily in other places

Interesting how they work things there!

@oldtimer Haha! I love it! I have visited dry places, but, never lived in one. I had naturally assumed that they would have a border patrol searching the cars for contraband... much like they used to take the cars apart when going from a Communist Border to a Free Country. Only they weren't Communist anymore. Someone forgot to tell the border guards...

Back to the post at hand... I can see where it would be a hardship wanting a little something, something and having to fetch it down the road a piece... Thanks for the visual. :)

I think I need a cold one now.

They are not communist anymore, but the other ones aren't free either, hehe.
I'm sure you can confirm this first hand.

Thanks for stopping by and for the tip of course. I'll probably spend it on Drugwars anyway, hehe. I warned you better not to tip me.

Oh, darn!

I forgot you don't want to be tipped. I'll try to remember! Drugwars sounds like a perfect place to spend it. Not that I would know.

Yes. I lived in Europe from Communist times to well beyond and am back in the States for years now, but, still, visit.

Just needed to keep in practice

And you think that you're living in a free country now?

No, but, I can buy beer. (Okay, seriously kidding)

There are levels of free and also unintended usage of the word free...

Ah - these roads and dunes! It's a fascinating country, I don't like some of their morals, but probably an amazing place to visit :-)
