CLOSE TO THE CREATURES WITH PAPA - DOBSONFLY

in photography •  7 years ago

These are some sick looking creatures to photograph!

For most of my life, I've just been playing with things like this. Now that steemit has provided an outlet for my creativity and "skills" though, I have been enjoying looking at things from a different point of view.

Photography is a hobby that I have always enjoyed, so it is great to be able to share new photographs with people. I had never photographed a Dobsonfly before, so it was a challenge to get some good angles of this peculiar creature. Hopefully, you'll enjoy some of these shots. I did have a great time taking them!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Ahhhhhh! It's on your face!

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

Poem by Cecil Frances Alexander

True story!

Amazing to see you have such a devotion towards nature and its inhabitants.. Not all people can get used to dealing with all sorts of creatures.
It's great to see people doing what they love and making a bit of profit out of it.
Cheers and much love from me friend :)
Goldie

I agree, normally I could only have fun doing this from home, but to make some profit I would have to leave and go to a nature center, zoo, or somewhere else. Now, I can share what I love right from my own home. I'm glad that you liked the photos!

Wow its wonderful creature as i never seen this kind of creatures before as its look like butterfly from below part and look like different thing from upper side. Its good shots you took from different angles and wonderful macro photography

Nice pictures. I like your photography.

@papa-pepper I was directed to you by a new friend on here and as soon as I opened your page and saw your bio I immediately understood why- I'm really excited to start following you. I absolutely love this post- I used to be so afraid of critters like this guy before my hubby made me get up close to them like you are here. It’s a shame we have become so damn detached from nature, I believe it's completely against our internal code. I am so inspired to see you fighting that norm and introducing your readers to the wild again!
I'm new here, I only got here about 4 days ago so I haven't really gotten settled in yet but my husband and I joined to connect with people like you- fellow gardeners, homesteaders, general ruckus-makers ;) We try to promote food sovereignty, living off the land, getting back to nature, gardening/permaculture through our NPO however we needed a new space to share our content and that's how we ended up here. I hope we can connect to you and share with and inspire each other! I'm following for the long haul, so nice to seem to have found an ally on here :)

Very cool and thanks for stopping in. I saw that @streetstyle and @darthnava were having a discussion over on your post, and it looks like @streetstyle was being very helpful. It sounds like we do have A LOT in common. The homesteading tag is doing pretty well right now too!

@papa-pepper thanks for connecting, this platform has shown me nothing but kindness and encouragement since day 1. I really appreciate everyone who has shown me the way so far. I'm happy to have been sent your way, am loving your posts and will be keeping an eye out for new stuff from you! Thanks for the suggestion, I am co-creating a project with my husband and each of our posts are going to be a lot more centered upon content suiting that very subject, demonstrating how it is, very possible to live another way ;) I appreciate it, looking forward to seeing you around!

It looks like this animal is dangerous if it gets bitten. I have never seen before about this beast.
Thans for sharing @papa-pepper

very cool nope you got there

LOL! Thanks!

Wow I've never seen something like that o.o but one thing's sure...I would NEVER put one of these on my face like you did hahhaa

Never? Not even for a chance to get a few STEEM?

hahaha perhaps but I don't think we have dobsonfly here in Spain

Man those thing just look like they can do some damage. I never had the nerve to pick one up. Didn't know you even could. I believe you mentioned that the females could really hurt but the males not so bad. Either way i'm still staying clear of them. Many people here use them for fishing.

cuteness overloaded.. visit to have a look at this cutest creature

Wow, I like insects too, and taking pictures of them ... too bad my country is exactly insect paradise (most people like it that way! :). And that's one crazy looking bug you got there. I've never seen anything like it! very very nice.

This creature look like it's from the movie King Kong @papa-pepper.

I totally think that it could take out some of the Godzilla guys too, like Mothra.

@papa-pepper thats called a NOPEfly !

Love to see you photography man you are doing such wonderful job you are sharing nature with us it's been always pleasure for me to watch such nature.

Crazy looking bug. Thank you.

Yeah, he sure is!

Animal planet 😉

That's a scary looking son-of-a-bitch. Where do you find such a critter?

They are sneaky and mostly come out at night, but I've seen them around in Wisconsin and in Arkansas.

That insect looks like an alien LOL. Nature is so diverse

Oh Man its so Horrible. How you dare to click picture . Really brave heart.

Thats an amazing creature! I love to see more never been seen here in phil. I also love living in country side where there are many trees, animals and amazing creatures like you have there. More power to you!

Hehe ok u can check my photos too I m photographer

Wow! Nice close up photos. I showed my 7 year old kid your dobsonfly proof and she ran a mile yelling insect man on Mom's computer... :D We only have dragonflies that big here.

Nice pictures. Really captured Dobsonfly's intimidating appearance close -up. Good camera angles taken. I like your photography.

Thanks, I really tried on this one. They are such long creatures and the males have such long mandibles too.

I'm glad that you think they turned out alright!

Excellent photos of these amazing insects.

Awesome pictures! Definitely looking forward to seeing more!

nice photos and brave considering those huge pinchers!

That is some amazing macro photography. The insect is not really beautiful but a great subject for photography. Your photo angles emphasize the horn like pincers which almost remind me of impala horns! Thanks for sharing.

If you find time, kindly take a look at a winking lioness funny blog I have posted with my wildlife pictures. As usual - your comment and guidance would be eagerly awaited

I'll check it out.

Its beautiful. I still need your guidance because I'm new in Steemit!!

them are real animals

You're a brave one for sure @papa-pepper! I love nature and the outdoors but this thing looks so creepy and you let it crawl on your face!!!! 😮
I am enjoying reading your posts, I have been reading them for a while through my husband @xtrodinarypilot. Thank you so much for the elderberry!!! Look forward to seeing you around the Steemit community.
I'm going to follow you anticipating meeting your next creepy crawly.

Does the dobsonfly have a particular purpose? Great photography. 🐓🐓

That it one odd looking insect, never seen one before. Obviously not in my neck of the woods. Cracking shots, thanks

Cool, nice to show you something new!

Wow thats amazing papa-pepper...is that insect does not have poison?

No, just pinchers, no poison!

ahh...thanks papa-pepper

What name the animal it..Like dinysaourus

It is a Dobsonfly. They start off as Hellgrammites in the water.

Amazing pictures, i love it @papa-pepper

Thank you! I am glad that you enjoyed it!

I've never seen Dobsonfly in Korea.
It looks like 'Earwig + Cicada' hahahah
Really interesting!

I agree, it does look like an interesting cross between those two. Good observation!

hahahah Thank you~! :D

what is this man Wow!

The nature is full of surprises - great shots

There really are a lot of crazy looking insects and animals out there! Thanks!

Hello papa-pepper, nice photos and post. Not sure what you guys call those but here in Florida they call them "toe biters". I remember the first time I seen one I almost fell backwards in my chair. One interesting thing about them is the male has huge pincers as you've shown, but is inadequate at delivering a bite. The female on the other hand has much smaller pincers and delivers quite the painful bite. Love the posts and pics. Keep doing what your doing.

Yup, very good point about the pincher sizes, sexes, and pain that they can inflict.

Thank you sir

Great pictures!
You got some good angles.
Steem on :)

I have never seen anything like this before!
It's very interesting!

Never had I seen this creature before!

Cute little guy, thanks @papapepper. I loved your previous post MAMA TARANTULA.

Woooow .. !!! Amazing ... brother .. !!! How can you photograph so beautiful ...?

It's huge!

Very cool. Did it try to pinch you with it's mandibles? We have a similarly sized fly here in Oregon, but without the terrifying mouthparts, and orange patches here and there. They're done for the year (many insects live only a short time as adults, breed, and die), but I regret not capturing some video of a couple before they were over now.

Last question, how do they taste?
