CLOSE TO THE CREATURES WITH PAPA - FIVE LINED SKINK II

in photography •  7 years ago

What a beautiful lizard!

The Five Lined Skink is the first wild lizard that I ever encountered back in Wisconsin. I really enjoy their striking yellow and black body, and when you add the electric blue tail, it is utterly amazing. You really have to appreciate the incredible coloration of creatures like this.

On the hot Arkansas days, you will often hear these guys more often than you will see them. When their little bodies are heated up by the sun, they are super-fast and will run into rock piles and underbrush as soon as they see you, which makes it harder for you to see them. This one cooperated rather well for the photo shoot.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Lol, very funny.

What a sweet little skinky! 🦎
I snapped some pics of one in a rainforest in Australia this past February (Steem-posted, of course); but there is NO DOUBT that @papa-pepper has the prettiest skink of them all!

Lol! Thanks!

😁

Skinks are very populated in alabama as well. They are fast, they give my cat a run for her money every time she see one. I will tell you a few times that I have encountered them I thought they where a snake at first. Awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing

The first one I saw I only saw the head at first, so I thought that it was a Garter Snake.

They kinda move like a snake as well. But they will make you think twice weather or not you just seen a snake. Very cool follow up to the cooper head.

Thanks Papa!! You know your creatures!!
Did you check out my post on the storm damage in Rapids?
It may interest you. Steem on!!

Not yet, but it was on my to do list.

Oh beauty.

Wow, what a beauty. I didn't realise he was so tiny.

lol heck no! If that thing touches me I'm running !

Good thing they really don't come looking for you!

Nice!
Could you find me a five lined skank?

Not these days, I gave that life up... ;-(

Didn't think it was so tiny o.o

Another good post papa!

Thanks Mate!

Good, I'll check it out man! Thanks!

Have good day man!

They are cool little reptiles, amazing he was chill enough to let you snap some pics that close!

Very interesting, I have never seen one.

I'm not sure if there are any up there by you, but keep your eye out just in case!

I will. I did see a type of skink in south Carolina when I visited.

That's awesome, as a kid we used to catch the lizards to feed them to the neighbors tarantula. Seems you've been up to lots of fun outdoor stuff last couple months while I been away!

That I have! Good to see you back.

Thank you! I'm glad to be back finally!

Very cool! We have lizards here in NM. The horned lizards are cute and relatively easy to Catch and /or photo. Another lizard we have, no one seems to have a name for. They are very streamline and fast. Forget trying to catch one unless you manage to corner it. Even then they are very nasty. I found one that had fallen into a bucket. I fully intended to let it go but wanted to hold and get a good look at it. When I picked it up, it latched onto my finger and thrashed about wildly until I dropped back into the bucket. I then took the bucket and released it into a nearby field. If you don't try to catch them, they will stop and check you out, giving you a good chance to do the same.

Man, I would love to get out there and check out a Horned Lizard in the wild... maybe one day.

They are cool. I have a short video of one I filmed while out rock hunting. If I can figure out how to down load it into a post I will. Didn't get any spectacular minerals, but I did find a bird point.

Wow. Pretty colours.

In South-Africa, we have a cousin that I see everywhere, all the time! My cat even occasionally leaves a head on my pillow for me.

It is interesting to see similar things in different parts of the world. Shared experiences.

wow that thing is cool, but that tail makes me feel weird. It is a color I wouldnt expect to see in nature, sort of a metallic blue.

Right, a very interesting color. How are you today?

You take pictures of the most amazing critters around. Do you always carry a zoom lens camera with you?

As always, love your work!

Amazing colors of the lizard. I like your proof shots ;)

It is such a great shots so I resteem. God job man ;) I came back again. Cannot forget the lizard.

That is a snake with legs!

I have found some lizards with no legs....

Wait....what? That's crazy!

Hey brother! Wow your 74... has it been that long since I have been around these parts. Haha!?

Welp, your post reminds me of the Horny Toad I caught the other day... at least that is what I think it was. I should have taken pictures and posted a story but I didn't think to... oh well.

Hope all is well my friend. As always I love the critters.

Glad to hear from you. Take photos next time.

I need to, I did post about the baby rats I found and couldn't leave so decided to keep.

Been going to the beach a lot and you can only tell so many stories about going to the beach. Haha, other than that I have just been working and taking pictures isn't really a good idea.

Maybe at the new store opening I will ask if I can bring my drove and see if I can get some good pictures, and videos, but for that I need to find/buy a new charger since I left my other one in Colorado :( Shouldn't be to much trouble though.

I used to catch Five-lined Skinks when I was a kid growing up in the outskirts of Kansas City. I haven't seen one in ages.

Cool. I was not too far from KC earlier today!

Beautiful indeed!

I love seeing these!! They frequent my house all of the time!! That blue tail is so awesome!

WOW! Getting a good composition whilst shooting wildlife is tricky. Good on you.

I don't think I have mulched any of these in yard work. They're good at scattering when the trimmer or mower is on the way, as far as I have seen. They're cool, and I don't want to hurt them!

Awesome! Great shots of the little guy. In Alabama, we called them 'blue-tailed skinks' and I always really liked them.

It's been a long time, and it's nice to see you around papa!
