CLOSE TO THE CREATURES WITH PAPA - OPOSSUM

in photography •  7 years ago

They look fierce, and thankfully I've never been bitten.

There is a bit of a story behind this photo shoot, but it is part of a much larger story that I'll try to share in the near future. For now, I just wanted to show off some photos that I took yesterday. Personally, I'm loving this new camera, and I'm glad that I've bee running into some cool animals lately. Enjoy the photos!

WHY IS HE ALWAYS SMILING?

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Those little dudes hiss too! We came home from church one night and there was a possum on the fence at head level. He was just staring at me. Something wicked about those little animals. Not much fear. At least here in San Diego. The dog was jumping up the fence to get him and he didn't move until we broke eye contact.

They are peculiar little ones, and fierce looking for sure.

I know folks in australia that have these as pets! They claim they are not like the ones here, mild mannered and very loving gentle creatures (I did ask if they were doing drugs).

Nobody in Australia has an Opossum as a pet. The possums we have in Australia are in no way related to or even similar to these.

Things are different down under. I did appreciate how soft this one was though.

Future toilet paper? Just an idea! Haha

lol!

hi @papa-pepper . i think it's my 1st time to see this animal, its fur is cute and looks cuddly but the teeth , so scaaaary 😱. thanks for sharing @papa-pepper! newbie here , fan of you and papa bear @paradise-found ❤️❤️❤️

Quite some nose lol, but really nice images my friends have to see this @papa-pepper

I was thinking the same thing, his nose caught my attention first. LOL

I think he's trying to bite your camera. lol

looks like a high-bred ,, can you please tell me the name of this animal

this may be dangerous to my friend @papa-pepper, but my friends remain cautious.
why this bleeding nose is bleeding.

With no competition in NZ, they have run wild, bred like rabbits, and taken over the bush.
They eat native birds eggs and chicks and are a nuisance, and a noxious animal.
Their fur, mixed with Merino wool is very warm for its weight, as the hairs are hollow, allowing an air gap between the body and the cold.
I didn't look, the Hey Baby underwear was using that mix at one time, check the little-peppers lot, they may be lucky.

Wow.. Interesting pictures. @papa-pepper how are you not scared to hold this creature???
I wonder the story behind the pictures..

Yeah, I was scared to hold it... but it did not stop me.

Your picture is beautiful and thankfully it will not bite
I wish you success

Good risk

Well hell, i'll be damned!! sir do you live in a forest?... i love animals i really do but you show us the most interesting creatures, you know over here in Nigeria i don't get the opportunity to see such interesting animals and up until today( yeah i had to look it up in google) did not know what was Opossum. well thank you for you lovely expository lessons. ;-)

We live in the country, so there are a lot more animals.

how you are managing yourself to do all these things?

For me, it is just my life.

I'm waiting @papa-pepper story. Wild animal. the picture is perfect

It'll come, just be patient.

of course I will be patient. @papa-pepper

nice one there, but the animal looks scaring, please whats the name of the animal

Opossum

oh, thanks

I wouldn't mess with an opossum. They look fierce. Thanks for the pics.

Is he smiling? Or is he hissing? I have never gotten close enough to an opossum, because I had always heard they could be fierce. But you seem right at ease with him, I'm super impressed!! :)

They are feisty little creatures but from my experience their growl is worse than their bite. Luckily I've also never been bitten. Just had a few surprise encounters as a kid while taking out the trash.

Been a while, hope all is wel, all the best in 2018

Love your stuff! Your wildlife photos are great. As a fellow wildlife enthusiast, I just look at your pictures and wish mine could be half as good.

Oh really fierce indeed...
Those sharp teeth and blood gushing red nostrils....Gave me a chill.

They are great for pest control especially ticks.

Yes, they can eat a lot of ticks!

amazing..

Following your posts for a while now, you are quite a character to say the least :-), beautiful post and style approach, cheers to a much deserved rep @pappa-pepper

Good nice animal and amazing post

It is in his nature to smile and its fierce look is also normal but very friendly.
I have seen it a couple of times on naogeo wild.
I love animal so much.
Nice pictures @papa-pepper

We had a LOT of possums on my city, about twenty years ago. When the city started to invade their habitats. Squirrels, too. Parrots and wild foxes.

Sadly, i have not seen one of any of those lately.

Makes you think, indeed. Something humble, maybe, but it is a symbol, for me, of things lost.

amazing photo, i really like it, thanks @papapepper

Wow great photography... he looks a little stressed out!

Animal is so cute and your photography is really stunning @papa-pepper
I would like to share my own photography with you https://steemit.com/photography/@irshadhussain/a-real-piece-of-paradise-on-land

I don't really know much about this animal but your shots @papa-pepper kinda makes me want to go find out more. You were able to hold the animal to get a proof shot too... was wondering how you would... Amazing shots sir!!

Good shooting @papa-pepper you are amazing my friend I salute you because I always follow you ..

I opened the lid to the garbage can one morning and had one hiss at me. Scared the bejesus out of me.

that happened to my neighbor last year, they had to call me to get it out.

I just left the lid open and he eventually went on his way . . .

Holy moly! You are close to this opossum! I am surprised he didn't try to bite you! I never am able to get too close to them! They are too quick for me!!

I bet much like yard animals, they can be tamed and domesticated, but I certainly would not be holding one. You are brave.

These guys look pretty scary to me especially when they are smiling. lol
I remember these guys from the "Ice Age" movie.
From what I heard these possums are great to have around the house for pests control. I heard that they eat even eat snakes.

Oe, that's quite scary. It almost looks like a preserved specimen. Brrrr. You're one brave man :P

They do have a fierce bite. A friend's cat got into a slight fight and ended up with a very nasty bite it's leg. And the hissing noise they make...

Although they do look kind of cute hanging upside down on a limb sleeping at night.

Quite some teeth ! amazing photo's man , love you series :)

Glad that you like it. These guys do look fierce!

It's kinda cute this guy. I love your photos of animals, man! I hope see more in the future

I got some coming on the deck to eat the cat food as well as racoon. GRRRRR! I know the opossum are beneficial so I just keep running them off.
