WILD PHOTOGRAPHY - Dolomedes tenebrosus

in photography •  7 years ago

The other day I found a very interesting spider that I had never seen before.

It was difficult to even notice at first because of its amazing coloration which resembles tree bark. I took the opportunity to photograph it so that I could do some research later, and I think that it paid off. Based on my image searches and research, I believe it is Dolomedes tenebrosus, the Dark Fishing Spider.

If my identification is accurate, this one should also be a female. I think that it looks like an amazing species, and am glad that I encountered it. See if you can find it hiding in this image below.

Just look at how well its legs blend in too.

HERE ARE THE REST OF THE PHOTOS

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Nice photos...
Thanks for sharing!

Crazy how that spider blends into the tree so well. It's amazing how they blend in to protect themselves. You must have great vision to even noticed it.

No kidding. I think that it must have moved when I saw it.

So many people are terribly frightened at spiders, but they are amazingly cool!
I don't think I've ever seen or took notice of this dark fishing spider, but I have documented MANY good, bad and ugly spiders on my YouTube channels.
Here is a video with a cute one, and another with a Yellow and Black Cross Spider:
The Curious Jumping Spider: almost cute
And a Large Colorful Good Garden Spider

Very cool. I'll try to check them out later once I drive home.

I never saw a spider that big (we dont have them in Ireland just small ones!) Thank God!!!=]
Great pics but No way my booty ever get that close lol x

PS well done on marking where it was cause I could not find it !!!! He should be in the army cause he is THAT camouflaged :]

She is not seem to be poisonous if you are holding her in your hands )
Nice creature.

That assumption may not be correct @elviento. From what I read, fishing spiders bite when they feel threatened and their bite hurts as much as a mild bee sting. So @papa-pepper would have had to carefully and gently persuade the spider that papa meant no harm. Not just that, it is a very well known fact that @papa-pepper HAS held poisonous snakes and scorpions in his bare hands many times. Check out his earlier posts and you can see for yourself.

I looked at that picture for a few seconds before I even noticed the spider.

Great post as usual papa-pepper! 👏 😎

You are a brave man.

Really it's amazing photographer. Please check my post.

Wowww... I think, I have no brave to touch the spider huhu

@papa-pepper I think it's amazing that you even saw it! Even if it moved. I bet 99 times out of 100 nobody ever spots these spiders when they are in their natural habitat. They seem that perfectly camouflaged going by your photographs. Thanks for sharing!

Upvoted and RESTEEMED :]

Scary especially when it's hard to spot one. I hope you are fine after holding it. Great close up photos btw

Great photos! I am new on steemit and was looking around since I have great passion in photography! I love your shots although it seems a bit dangerous with the spider! Hope I can upload photos with this quality soon!

Excellent post, greetings ..

Well, it would be really scary if the spider disappear without you noticing where it went. It might be on your neck already. Ready to bite.

I was trying to figure out why it is called a fishing spider and sitting on a tree, so I quickly looked on wikipedia. Apparently there is one specific type that dwells in trees, called D. albeneus. This must be the one that you found. I am always amazed by the ability of certain of God's creatures to camouflage so well. I loved your post. Kudos for you holding the creepy crawly, though. Snakes, well, okay. Spiders, well, no way!

Nice @papa-pepper, I would have probably never seen that spider until i was already up on it and it started moving. I tell ya man its something about you and nature that goes hand and hand I see. Keep producing this awesome content man.

Amazing camouflage, we always just call these tree spiders.

Amazing spider and great photos, are you afraid of nothing @papa-pepper?

The ol' fishing spider. Largest spider here in Pennsylvania!

Wow. Very cool. We certainly have larger species here, but it was nice to meet it.

Amazing camouflage @papa-pepper! Difficult to notice it at first! I'm amazed that i took it in your hand man! Wow!

The spider is quite huge and can match the area ...cant really see it due to the color matches the location haha. Good one indeed

Darn sneaky spider. I see you though, I see you.

That is a very cool spider...although my daughter would argue that there is no such thing as a cool spider. LOL. :D

How did you even manage to see it...its got the best camouflage, other than a chameleon of course, that I've ever seen. :D

I never would have saw it unless it moved as I was getting close to it...maybe then I might have seen it. Great pictures of that lovely lady though, thanks so much for sharing. :D

papa-pepper get some .

Once again, classic papa pepper. Very "stop and smell the roses" kind of post but with a manly spin (who picks up spiders, and knows their scientific name?) Good post, still learning...

Nice spider pictures
