Surely you can see what is sitting on this tree?

In the previous post I said that I would post a squirrel and some guinea fowl keets today, just to show you how they also blend in with their surroundings. It's a tough world out there for the youngsters and the danger of being killed is their constant companion. As long as they stay in their natural surroundings, they are relatively safe, but whenever they step out into the open they are at high risk.
Let's have a look!

Look how nice his colors blend in with the old oak tree!

The fear is, just as my camera can find him, so a nearby predator can spot him.
The good thing though is that high flying predators cannot see him!

And now to show you the guinea fowls!

Look how difficult it is to see the keets (babies), even at close range!

Their grey colors match the soil perfectly!

Here is a closer look at their baby beauty!

And there you have it. Nature's camouflage works so well that at times when I walk in the grass lands, or the bush, I often come within touching distance of her residents. A partridge for instance will sit on her nest, even though she can hear you coming, until the last moment and then she will flutter out suddenly with such a noise that you get the fright of your life. No warning as you hadn't seen her because she blended in so well with her surroundings.
I love nature!

Are the squirrels native to your area? The grey ones we have came from the US and displaced the native reds.

Yep Sir Steve, as native as can be, but I have also seen some in the highveld, approximately 2400 kilometers from here, that are all grey!

I had to zoom in to find the squirrel! Cute little thing... I've never seen one in real life though!

Thank you and this one is still a youngster. The owner told us that when the nut trees bear fruit, there is a whole tribe of squirrels in the garden. I hope you will see one.
Blessings!

The tail of the squirrel caught my eye right away the baby keets now so much so

great shots

Thank you JJ and you have a good eye my friend!
Blessings!

I doi have my weaknesses but people have always been impressed how observant i am :)

It did took me a long while to spot the squirrel... Stared at the picture for dozens of seconds before finally zooming in to pinch that little furball out. They really know how to hide well lol.

If I'm the predator, probably I'll starve to death with my observation skills. Glad that I'm not one, heh.

Thank you and we know that you are definitely not a predator. Glad you spotted him and it just shows the amazing eye sight of predators flying high overhead. They take many squirrels!
Blessings!

It took me a couple of seconds to spot that squirrel lol. Cute little fella. Never seen a real squirrel as we don't even have them in zoos. There must be so much more wild life in your area. A very exciting place to live.

Thank you and glad that you spotted him my friend. Africa is known for its abundance of wild life.
I have only once in my life been to a zoo, as I don't like caged animals!
Blessings!

Very interesting observations of nature. I enjoyed reading and looked.
I saw a squirrel a little faster than yesterday's bird.

Thank you Lady Elena and I am glad that you saw him.
Nature is indeed a very interesting subject to explore!
Blessings!
