Blue Monday? These guys don't think so!

in photography •  6 years ago

Look, this beautiful guy is smiling at me and there's a twinkle in his eye!

The heat is almost unbearable here today and a friend placed a thermometer reading of 40 degrees Celsius on Facebook. A great thing however about the heat is that it brings the Dragonflies out to play at the farm's dams.
And it was a perfect day for drag. hunting!

Can anything be more beautiful than these?

Yes indeed it can and tomorrow I will show you some amazing pictures of other Dragonflies sitting for a moment on reeds over the dam in the late afternoon sun. Ever seen a silver Dragonfly? Or how the sun reveals the real colors in their wings?

Until then, we thank you for your visit to @papilloncharity

Thank you! Well my friend, I hope that you now know about Dragonflies. The strange thing is that they spend most of their life underwater as nymphs and by a system called "metamorphosis" they change into dragonflies. After the change, they only live for a few months. Blessings!

Thank you for educating me about them, my friend.
Even though, I have seen and handled dragonflies ever since I was a child, I had absolutely had no idea about them being nymphs. Of course, the dragonflies, that we see around our homes (and somtimes, in our homes) are nowhere as pretty and beautiful as the ones, you have photographed.

Those are incredible dragonflies shots! I am really stunned by the colors on the third photo! How did you take them? Where you just sitting idle and waiting for the right scene to happen in front of the lens or were you moving to hunt those amazing shots?
I really like your photos. Thanks for sharing.

Best regards.

@joelsegovia Thank you and I think you will like today's post about dragonflies even more! We have 3 dams on the farm and I scout them for dragonflies. If I spot one, I keep the sun between me and my target so that my shadow does not scare him. Dragonflies are very aware and they don't like movement and so I do my best to stalk him by using the wind as an ally. As the wind move the grasses, so I move slowly through the grasses. Then the task is to identify possible landing sites, as sooner or later he sits for a brief moment. So I wait and watch, sometimes for a long period until he sits in my range! That is what I call Drag hunting! Blessings!

I apologize for taking so long to reply. That's totally awesome, didn't know it required that much effort to take those shots! I will be expecting your next posts.

Best regards.

All That Glitters Is Not Gold! the light off the beating wings, glistening in life and colour what a sight to behold. You are the best in photographing the dragons Stephen!

@joanstewart Should I say then that; Money cannot create nature's beauty Lady Joan? The best I do not know much about, but I do know that anything is possible if one's heart is in it. I find that these shooting excursions do wanders for my stress levels and it helps me to relax. I am one of those that cannot sit still unless my attention is totally focused and it cost me many hidings at school. If you like glistening wings, have a look at todays post that I promised! Blessings!

Money is an evil necessity nothing more, nothing less. Being in nature is the only place I find peace and quiet, a walk in a park in nature is more beneficial than going to any head shrink. Have a wonderful day, look forward to your photography every day so thanks for entertaining me through your lens Stephen.
