House hunting at the seaside!

in photography •  6 years ago

Even the lifeguards and the rescuers need some time out fishing to relax!

We travelled a long way along the coast today passing by some amazing views from the road that runs at the sides of the mountains. I would rather share some views than show you the 3 little cottages that we went to have a look at. Wow, they are the cheapest places in this area, but their conditions are laughable. Run down and the walls are all cracked and they cost just below a million rand. One would have to spend another million or two to flatten the cottages and to build new ones. Not worth it.

As we drove along, I saw this guy travelling towards the opposite shore of this bay. That's Somerset West in the distance!

Thank goodness for the zoom on my camera, as we stopped to check him out and it seemed that the crew were doing some cleaning and maintenance!

These are some of the houses that are situated on the foreshore. Mostly expensive and private holiday houses!

I have to say that the little seaside towns are all very clean, neat and tidy.

But of course house hunting on a small budget is not a very nice thing to do. One goes out with high hopes and many of the houses that one sees looks so nice, but they are priced way above our heads. Even the ones that do not look very nice are also out of our price range. Renting is out of the question as the monthly charges will bankrupt us quickly due to the high monthly charges, but the fight continues and all that we have to do is to continue searching.
Sorry for what seems to be a bit of venting and hope that you have enjoyed the pictures!

@papilloncharity a very interesting journey with extraordinary photography and you really master interesting shots.

Interesting is as it goes my friend. I try to post a large variety of different things, as it keeps my page interesting. Thank you for the kind words! Blessings!

good luck with your searching and hope you can find something within your budget

Thank you JJ and it's not going to be easy as our budget is way below the house prices here, but then again miracles still happen in our lives. I am an experienced handyman and if we find something that needs work it will not be a problem, but the ones we have been shown thus far are all beyond repair. Blessings!

I can only imagine May something that works for you comes soon my friend

Oh yes, house hunting on a small budget can be so disheartening 😢 We've had to do it a few times and it always seemed like we can JUST not afford what we would really need. But keep looking and keep your hopes up, you never know when you will find the perfect spot...it might take longer and be frustrating at times, but don't give up! Good luck!!!

Well that's the thing Lady Esli, time is of the essence as we got the message to vacate by the 1st of January. But of course there is always hope and we will continue to search. Blessings!

I see, a time constraint definitely makes things more stressful, I pray that you find a place within your budget that meets all your needs!

Thank you for your kindness and care Lady Esli. We trust that all will work out eventually! Blessings!

In what area are you looking to buy? If you are looking round Somerset West area...I would definitely recommend looking towards Gordons Bay!

Looked at Gordon's Bay, but very exposed to the lovely sea winds for one and the cheapies are of the smaller kinds in the not so good areas. Now looking further afield! Blessings! Stephen

Yes, haha the wind is definitely a factor to consider, but we are rewarded with the best days when the wind dies down 😁 We were fortunate to find a great little place here in Gordon's Bay, but it's been more than a year, the house market can change a lot in a short time. I assume that with the charity you would need to stay in this general area. The only other place where I can think you might not have considered is Caledon, but that might be too far out and too isolated? At this stage I really do not have much to offer except my prayer that you find a place!

We can basically work from anywhere and thus far we have looked in places like Swellendam, Worcester, Hermanus and Kleinmond. Today we saw a few places in Summerset West, but nothing yet. Thank you for your prayers as it is a great gift! Blessings!

House prices in the countryside and seaside villages in the Western Cape have skyrocketed in the last few years. Even the drought didn't have an impact. Actually, because some places didn't have water restrictions, it had the opposite effect.

Good luck with the search - your house or cottage will find you, I am sure.

Hope is one of our strongholds Lady Fiona and I have a feeling that you are right. There is some place out there that is waiting for us to find it! Blessings! Stephen

How disheartening to learn that the prices are that high in the countryside, really hope you find some little hidden gem for you to find a place to call home soon.

Stunning photography as always.

We shall not become disheartened Lady Joan, as we are real fighters and I am waiting to sense the call of the little hidden gem. Blessings!

This is also tough job my friend..
Nice photographs thanks for supporting me..

My pleasure to support you my friend and we will continue to search! Blessings!
