Sunbirds love Granadilla Blossoms!

in photography •  6 years ago

The sunbirds just love the granadilla blossoms!

This intricate multicolored blossom will soon change into a granadilla fruit!

And this is what a growing granadilla looks like!

As you can see, there is some form of nectar in the blossoms for the sunbirds!

We don't pick the fruits off the bushes as instead we wait for them to fall off to the ground when ripe. Some mornings I pick five or six of the fruits off the ground and then we keep them on a window sill for a few days. The riper that the fruit gets, the sweeter they are. Good for baking granadilla cakes, tarts and drinks, they are even placed in ice creams.
Really a delicious fruit.

Wonderful shot and lucky moment sir. I just know the name of this plant is Granadilla. Thank you sir @papilloncharity for this information, because 6 days ago I post about this wild plant under title My negligance and small wild marquisa.

Thank you and I am glad that you now know that it is a Granadilla my friend! Leaves cover the blossom and it transforms into a fruit! Blessings!

What a gorgeous selection of shots

Thank you JJ. The granadilla blossoms are indeed very intricate and they convert into one of the sweetest fruits! Blessings!

Wow, I never knew they had such exquisite blossoms. Your photography is wonderful. Keep it up!!!

Thank you and I am glad to have introduced you to the beauty of their blossoms! Blessings!

Wonder how much the birds influence cross pollination to developing a better fruit during flowering stage?

Fruit salad isn't a tasty fruit salad without granadilla /passion fruit or guavadilla that we have in my garden. Flowers are very similar in beauty.

I don't know too much about the bird's influence on the fruits Lady Joan, but I know that they spread the seeds far an wide that results in granadilla bushes all over the place. We can hardly walk at the one side of the dam due to the birds planting blackberry bushes. I would love to see a guavadilla blossom. Blessings!

Gorgeous photos as always @papilloncharity! I just love granadilla!

Thank you and I bet you can bake many wonders with them Lady Lizelle! Blessings!
