Looks like an alien doesn't he? This is a Red Bishop during his transformation period. From grey to red and black.
I had no time to take any photos today and so I decided to share this treasure of mine. All of the shots were taken by me in the garden of our old home in Johannesburg.
Hope you enjoy the pictures!
Let's start at the beginning! At the front you can see the red bishop that this post is about and at the back you can see one that is more developed. The Red Bishop is of the Weaver Family.
The little white feathers on his chest are all falling out to be replaced by pitch black feathers and the greyish strands on his head will transform into the same black, while the feathers around his neck will be replaced by beautiful red ones.
And here is the final result! A complete transformation from an dour little grey bird to the beauty of a Bishop!
One of mother nature's best lessons is to teach us as humans to accept natural change. Sadly so many of us cling either to the past, or to our comfort. Let's face it, many of us are scared of change, but here we are shown that nothing is a constant. As long as the change is for the better, it's a good thing. We are all on a short journey on this planet and we should ensure that we get the most out of this life.
Blessings and thank you for visiting this post by @papilloncharity.

We sure are here for a short time frame, changing colours from time to time to fit in, may be an idea to take up some challenges we face.
How often we overlook our own knowledge, don't share then after the fact think, but I should have had the courage of the person who did go and share!
Green with jealousy, or lack thinking in a broader frame of mind? Hindsight is a very powerful piece of knowledge, turning you red with fury for not taking a little step forward, yes nature teaches us a lot!

Such an excellent comment Lady Joan that I had almost no words here to reply! But as always I can chirp to make you smile. In the case of the Bishop's I think it should be Red with jealousy and Green with fury? Or maybe Red with jealousy and Black with fury? Blessings!

The birders have been congregating around the birding tag here on Steemit. I bet they would love your photos.

Thank you for the kind advice! Birding tag? I post a variety of African birds, but I also post a variety of other items, such as sunsets, landscapes, flowers, clouds and so forth. Of course I also do posts about our charity work. That's why I have decided to post in only two topics namely; charity and nature. Are you suggesting that I should include the #birders tag every time that I post birds? Blessings!

Yes, I'm suggesting you also use #birding just for the bird photos. The transformation of this Red Bishop was fascinating.

That is so cool. Is it a change that happens once as they get older or do they change seasonally?

Thank you! They change seasonally during the Spring season, as it is their mating outfit and like any other guy, they like to look good for the ladies. Blessings!
