The third day of Winter in South Africa!

in photography •  6 years ago

The late afternoon sun and they are all asleep!
They seek out a safe tree that is exposed to the weak winter sun and it just so happens that the tree is right behind our house! We also had to make some changes at home against the cold and our first priority is to keep all of nature's creatures safe, by doubling the feeding at the trays.
Enjoy then this post with me!

A Hadeda Ibis landing on the high tree to warm himself!

And here we have two Glossy Starlings sitting in the sun on the high tree!

A Loerie taking a late afternoon spin

Look how fat these two little Robin's are getting to endure the winter cold!

Just a shot of the moon and a Cape Sparrow.

Sheer bliss! This is how our little guy "Troy" gets through the cold day!

And finally, here you have Lady Marian and me taking Troy on his regular afternoon walk!

As humans we are certainly strange beings! The voiceless residents of nature accept and prepare for the changes of the seasons from the tiniest little Ant to the Elephant and everything in between! No moaning or groaning, as they have all learnt to accept nature's wistfulness! But o, woe to us as humans, as even though many of us have seen many years of winters, we still moan about the cold!

Each season, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, has it's own distinct and wonderful characteristics, and the trick is to marry the mind to these characteristics and to see the hidden wonders! It is indeed cold over here, but just like the animals, we are also prepared for the cold. So much so that I am the first that's outside on the chilly mornings and normally the last to go inside.

The seasons were created to secure the functioning and the life on this planet and we simply have to accept that. The Supreme mind behind these creations has also enabled each of us, just like the animals to endure the seasons. In fact, by understanding, to come to love the seasons and to enjoy their special offerings.

As a Capetonian of many years I find it utterly amusing when someone local moans about either the wind or the winter rain...

I mean like: Dude, it's Cape Town. The wind will blow, the rain will fall. Duh.

Agreed my brother, and the sun will shine when it is its time to shine. Here in Johannesburg we are also picking up on the early winter rains and as you say. Get used to it!

Thanks sir

I feel like those doves when I look out the window and see cold weather - and then I just want to do what troy does; get back under the blankets!

They are so clever to soak up the late afternoon sun, wrapped in their feather coats! We can certainly learn much from mother nature! Blessings!

Wunderbar!

@johano Glad you like the pictures and all blessings to you!

I really wonder what a winter in Africa looks like and do the elephants run for the hills to hibernate when it happens, these are the minuscule thoughts that cross my toony mind. You guys are still champs tho and keep the fight going my friends.

Peace!

Sorry for the late reply my friend! Elephants don't need to hibernate as they have very thick leathery skins! Our winters are short and snow only falls on far away mountains! Thank you for your kind words and all Blessings to you and yours! @antoniowestley
