As renunciators, they cut off all ties with their family, possess nothing or little, dress in a longhi, a tunic, saffron color for Shaivites, yellow or white for the Vishnuites, symbolizing the sanctity, and sometimes of some collars. They have no roof and spend their lives traveling on the roads of India and Nepal, feeding on gifts, sometimes sympathetic sometimes aggressive but always a source of reflection and inspiration.
