How do you do a quick lens performance test to help decide if a lens is the right choice for you?

The best way to test any lens is simply walk around a local park or a botanical garden with lots of flowers. Photographing black and white charts inside is no joy get out side with natural light and where there are lots of natural colours.

Many people ask me this question since going down the path of using vintage lenses on a mirrorless camera. Adapting them has opened the door to cost savings compared to a new purchase and creating a signature look to my photography portfolio.

These photographs are from Canon FD and in particular the sample images are from the Canon FD 35mm Concave F2.

Released April 1976 the 35mm concave known for its front glass element. Just by holding the lens up to the light and looking at the light reflection the design is so well crafted that for a moment as light shimmers off the glass surface of a diamond.

Super sharp glass when focused on target and shoots the most beautiful swirl bokeh at open apertures. Signature colours are produced from this lens. I find taking many close up photographs will give you some great insight into lens performance. The 35mm F2 is a quality lens and a must have in a photographers kit bag.
